Conversations with Jaden (DJ Bitty) Frazier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaden (DJ Bitty) Frazier.

Hi, Jaden (DJ Bitty); so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before becoming a DJ, I used to produce and write music for multiple independent artists. I even had a string of songs I made myself when I called myself an artist. I’ve been actively DJ’n for 9 years (since 2015), putting me at 14 when I started. Professionally, when I started taking it seriously as a business would be 2016. My first ‘gig’ was my brother’s graduation party. I only had a laptop and computer speakers. Once I realized what I could do, I began to invest in myself. I started in Chicago and have slowly migrated across the southern states. Currently, I attend NCAT, where I have become one of the institution’s most sought-after DJs. I’ve DJ’d in TN, TX, NC, IN (Indiana), and a few more states. I’ve done every event under the sun, from backyard parties to weddings. My bucket list is still going on tour and doing a concert. Once I achieve that, I’ll end my reign as a DJ. My decision has yet to be made as far as ending my DJ career, but I have been dedicated to other avenues of life. I want to start an entertainment business with DJs as free agents (contractors). I have a strong passion for music, so I’ll always be in touch with that side of things. I tell people I’m more than a DJ, though. I’m an entrepreneur and investor most of all. Besides DJ’n, I produce, invest, and have a clothing line; currently getting into consulting as I have an offer with Bank of America as a Financial Advisor and an active holder of multiple organizational titles.

I left Chicago because of the atmosphere that is there. I needed a new change of scenery. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love my city. I cannot stay there. I take risks and roll with the consequences (usually rewards). Moving to North Carolina was done blindly but a great decision. My next destination will be Houston, Texas.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting to DJ at such an early age came with multiple challenges. People thought that I didn’t know how to run a business (which at some point I didn’t), I’d get underpaid, and I’d get overlooked sometimes. Living with strict parents, I missed many opportunities to ‘blow up quicker.’ There have been instances where I’ve DJ’d events and fights broke out; there was even a time in 2019 when a party I DJ’d ended in a shoot-out, and someone died. Music and frequency have changed dearly within the past decade, making it harder for me to play these songs routinely and intentionally. These 2 main reasons are why I’ve been debating ending my DJ career for the past few months.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the definition of an entrepreneur. Since elementary school, I have sold candy from my bag. Now in my 20’s, I’m selling products, services, artists (currently the CO-Founder of the first HBCU artist label), and more. I’ve grown up watching my family work day in and day out, which significantly impacted me. At NCAT, I’m specifically known for being one of the top DJs and CO-Founder of the label. Hard work and dedication are not strange to me. I specialize in the ability to never be without; if there’s something that I can’t do, believe me, it’ll take me twice as fast to learn it since you think I can’t. I’m most proud of my progression as a growing individual, especially where I come from. My determination and sound set me apart from others. I don’t just ‘play songs.’ I hear and feel them differently. When I DJ, I refer to it as the ‘Incline Experience’ because the vibe and feeling continuously go up. The experience is like a rollercoaster.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
All my family invested in me in Chicago, allowing me to DJ at their backyard party, birthday, or community event. When I moved to North Carolina, I had a few mentors who would take the time to challenge me and brush me up (shoutout to CDK on the Mic, DJ TJ, and DJ 313). Ultimately, the credit goes to all the musical legends who have passed and have a biopic. I love movies that tell about the lives of musicians because there’s always a lesson they learned and some musical superpower they possess.
