Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Misso.
Hi Anthony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Anthony Misso, and I currently own CapriFlavors Italian Market. I have had a passion for cooking and great food since I was very young, and I am a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. I was a professional chef for many years in my home state of New York and in several Michelin Starred restaurants in Italy. I moved to North Carolina with my family in 2006, where I continued to work as a chef, eventually owning my restaurant. Finding the hours of being in the restaurant business challenging while raising a family, I came to work at CapriFlavors while it was under the original ownership of Costanzo and Titina Vuotto. I assisted Titina with the cooking classes and ran the store for Costanzo. Eventually, after Titina’s passing, Costanzo was ready to retire, and I purchased the business from him. I have worked on expanding our selection of products (especially wines) for quite some time, and we are very happy to see our business grow as more people discover us! We have big plans for the future here at Capri.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has only sometimes been a smooth road. It became very challenging during the pandemic to keep many of the imported items in stock, as many businesses in Italy were closed. People were not venturing out to shop, so we were not selling as much, and we could not host any events during that time either. We also lost most of our employees and were down to just myself and my assistant, Laurel, working all day to keep the shop open.
As you know, we’re big fans of CapriFlavors Italian Market. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
CapriFlavors is an Italian Grocery store selling all of the best ingredients imported from Italy. We are known for having the most hard-to-find items in the Triangle at the best prices. We bring pasta, snack items, soups and sauces, specialty spreads, espressos, and many olives and other Italian specialties. We also have the most extensive selection of Italian wines in North Carolina. We are very proud of our bread, which we bring from New Jersey, and you can finish it in the oven at home. Our Italian sausage from Cangialosi Specialty is second to none and arrives to us every Wednesday. We also have a large selection of Italian cheeses and meats. If we don’t carry it, ask us, and we may be able to get it for you! When you come to CapriFlavors, you can expect the best quality items and superior customer service. We are always glad to help with recipes and cooking advice and are happy to help you shop for items for an antipasto or charcuterie platter.
What’s next?
Right now, we have great plans to continue providing residents of the Triangle with the best Italian food and some prepared foods! We plan to add a deli counter with sliced cold cuts and fresh paninis in the upcoming year. We would also like to add a kitchen to prepare some bake-at-home specialties and eventually resume our Italian cooking classes. We have also started hosting special events here at the store, including private wine tastings and social events for some of the local Italian groups in the area.
