Rising Stars: Meet Tamara White of Durham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara White.

Hi Tamara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my real estate journey about 5 years ago. I was a corporate flight attendant that had recently moved back home to the RDU area after traveling and working abroad for nearly a decade. I began seeking ways to settle back into my hometown and stumbled across a book called “Rich Dad, Poor Dad.” In the book, Robert Kiyosaki talks about two ways to build wealth: stocks or real estate. I was inspired by the power of building generational wealth through home ownership, especially in my community. I purchased my first home in 2017, and then I realized that home ownership is a significant and powerful tool to grow your net worth. More than that, it was easily attainable! For whatever reason, I thought homeownership was for rich people, and you needed lots of money to qualify to buy a home. However, I quickly learned that that was not the case. It was very easy to purchase a home through simple, small steps and the right guidance. This inspired me to obtain my real estate license and start to educate others about real estate’s power. In 4 short years, I’ve acquired 11 properties that range between fix and flips, Airbnb’s, buy and holds, and primary residences. I’ve helped over 50 families, and individuals grow their network through homeownership, and I now host seminars and masterclasses on how to get started in real estate.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anything worth doing is going to be difficult. I’ve had many struggles along the way. The most significant was the ability to believe in myself and my capabilities. It took quite some time for me to give up my corporate flight attendant full-time job. It was glamorous, stable, and what I had known for the past 10 years. I admit I don’t like being outside of my comfort zone. It took time to consider myself a person of value and resource. The minute I started believing in myself, it became easier to quit my job and pursue becoming an entrepreneur. Every day I would wake up and say to myself, “you got this, and even if you don’t, you will figure something out!” That has always guided me, then and today!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a real estate agent and investor. I specialize in helping first-time home buyers and investors grow their net worth through homeownership. I am a realtor that practices what I preach. I am constantly researching the best deals, practices, financing, and loan products for myself to provide the best customer service and knowledge to my clients. I always run through different scenarios so the process is smooth. I am always educating myself. I’ve established myself as an expert through my trials and tribulations, and I think people appreciate that!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Many people reach out to me, wanting me to be their mentor. My best advice to someone wanting to find a mentor is not to think about what that person can do for you but rather what you can do for them. How can you be a person of value? Busy people will always need help with something. You will naturally learn about their business and process by helping them with simple tasks.
