Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Tully.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a very passionate person and have always needed to feel grounded and connected to myself and the world around me. The outlet to create and feel connected to nature has been an invaluable part of my life that has kept me humble and grateful. The ability to develop all the ideas that swarm in my head has been something that has helped me so much when I needed to step away from daily stressors. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve come into the spiritual woman I am today. I’ve spent so much time gardening, working with herbs and crystals, and making items that made me feel like I was in touch with my inner witch! As a result, it created so much authentic inspiration that I wanted to share it with a community of people who desired more ways to express their identity through uniquely designed items and sustainable sourcing. With that, I created Little Shop of Magick! I am a small business that is very active in the maker’s community in the Raleigh Durham area, participating in events such as markets and pop-up shows. In addition to that, I am available in brick mortars geared towards marketing small business owners and their products. I have an Etsy shop for my online customers, and I plan to create my website this year! I have transitioned from hobby to business and still have much to learn. Still, I am focusing on creating a loyal customer base and expanding into the e-commerce world while staying involved in the small business community.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been struggles! I am still working a full-time job separate from my business, so using my weekends and evenings for all my dreams is precious time that cannot be wasted! Entrepreneurship is not an easy career path, and the ideas around online marketing will be around for a while. Since the pandemic, millions of people have reevaluated their lives and pivoted to do something they love, which is amazing! But it has also led to market over saturation, and it’s more difficult to stand out. This has become a permanent way for many people to sustain their livelihoods and feel connected to their customers, even through a screen. It’s only natural to get distracted by other makers seeing results with successful sales and a loyal following. You immediately want to implement a million different strategies into your work to try and capitalize on the success. We consume media now more than ever, and the algorithms are constantly changing, making it extremely difficult to be discovered. Between Instagram, Tik Tok, and Facebook, I’ve had to continually work to stay with the trends and produce engaging content that will stand out. It has been challenging to identify where your dream customers spend their time, decide what type of content to share based on attention span, build trust with your consumers, and maintain my authenticity as a maker.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Little Shop of Magick?
I offer a place of wonder for everyone through quality handmade, witchy, nature-inspired products. I design bold and fun products for eccentric individuals who value the freedom of self-expression and being connected to nature. Whether you want statement one-of-a-kind jewelry, a spell kit to cleanse your space, a zodiac tea blend to sip in your garden, or a candle for manifesting the life you deserve, my shop can provide you with these keepsakes filled with magick.
I hope Little Shop of Magick can provide a renewed connection to oneself, nature, and the witch within. My products are meant to inspire the magick inside us; whether it’s something you wear, drink, or light, there’s something for everyone. I wanted to be something other than a business only offering jewelry because that takes a lot of individuals out of the equation, and I wanted to create something more inclusive for anyone that wants to tap into that whimsical spirit. I offer a niche brand you will only find in a few small businesses, and I love that. It’s super fun when I know my customers are buying a product that aligns with their values because that usually means it aligns with my values too! The collaboration of believing in self-expression and valuing your spirituality allows many of my customers to connect with me organically, creating a community. I specialize in zodiac tea blends, infused essential oil rollers, and soy wax wood wick candles, all made with vegan eco-friendly products and herbs I grow in my organic garden. I also make flower-pressed trays from polymer clay, a hot seller for jewelry dishes or crystal altars. I also make all of my earrings and plant holders within that realm of polymer clay using this medium as well. I intentionally use reusable jars and lots of items from my yard because I believe in sustainably sourcing and making products that will last or can be repurposed!
What do you think about happiness?
Happiness comes from the bonds we build with our loved ones and the new people we meet on our journey! I’m walking in my highest power when I can authentically make fulfilling relationships with those around me. What makes me happy is feeling connected to my family, friends, and community. I also feel joy when I spend time in nature- hiking, traveling, and soaking up the sunshine as much as possible. It boosts my energy enormously and allows me to put my best self forward. My other joys include yoga, meditation, working with my crystals and tarot cards, spending time with my pets, and trying out new local businesses at any chance.
