Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Barreto, Ph.D. of FemHealth Insights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Barreto, Ph.D. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Every day Dr. Barreto dedicates her work to advancing women’s health by equipping founders, investing in innovative ideas, and engaging key stakeholders to create better healthcare for women, females, and girls, an industry known as FemTech. She is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of FemTech Focus, Host of the FemTech Focus Podcast, Co-Founder of Coyote Ventures, Advisory Board Member for the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Indiana University, and an unconventional scientist, entrepreneur, and consultant that proves that anything is possible with hard work and heart. Her journey in women’s health began as a distributor and educator for Athena’s Home Novelties (SexTech). She has engaged in HHMI-funded research on potential correlations between Estrogen and Alzheimer’s, disproportionately affecting women. While finishing her doctorate in Genetics, she founded a venture-backed startup, Pheramor, the world’s first DNA-based dating app. The algorithm incorporated factors that increase sexual compatibility and fertility between matches. Dr. Barreto also co-founded WeHaveChemistry, a web-based product for couples to discover their love alchemy. She exited the two companies, shifted into investments as Senior Venture Associate, and launched Capital Factory’s Gulf Coast branch. Under Dr. Barreto’s leadership, the Houston accelerator portfolio grew by an impressive 205%.

She noticed how underserved the FemTech industry was and set out to bring awareness, resources, and capital to it via her new organization, FemTech Focus, a non-profit entity that empowers the femtech industry through increased awareness, providing resources to founders and creates opportunities to support startups. Today Dr. Barreto hosts the #1 FemTech podcast, “FemTech Focus,” which produces data-driven industry reports, is recognized globally as a women’s health leader, and is a highly sought-after speaker and industry consultant.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is the doubt that women’s health is a niche industry. The fear comes from people having never heard of women’s health or femtech as an industry. And how could a $1T industry go so unnoticed? Luckily people are finally seeing the potential of the next wave of healthcare!

We’ve been impressed with FemHealth Insights, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Led by a team of analysts and advisors who specialize in female health, FemHealth Insights empowers business leaders to deeply understand the FemTech market and discover strategic opportunities to positively impact female health and wellness through custom consulting services, expert thought-leadership, market analysis, and direct access to the FemTech founder community. Leveraging the FemHealth Insights’ proprietary FemTech database, we offer businesses in diverse industries unparalleled access to the comprehensive data and insight needed to illuminate areas of untapped potential in the nuanced women’s health market.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I always suggest having a mentor where you want to be 2-5 years from now and a mentor who is living your ideal life!
