Check out Bomm Sheltuh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bomm Sheltuh.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Bomm Sheltuh is Nervous Reck & Filthe Ritch. We started as a trio in 1992 while attending Anne Chesnutt Jr High School in Fayetteville, NC. In High School, we became a duo, and shortly after High School, we built our studio in Nerv’s parent’s house when they moved away. We started to get very known throughout Fayetteville in the late 90s and were even selected by DMX to be a part of his Bloodline Record label, although that has yet to come to fruition. In 1999 we released our first E.P. titled www.bommsheltuh.com – The E.P. and quickly became the most sought-after group in the region. The following year we dropped our full-length album titled Food, Clothing & Sheltuh. This album would later be heard by a young man named Jermaine Cole, who sought to meet us. We invited Jermaine to one of our shows and let him rap on stage afterward. We took a liking to him and took him under our wings. He became the little brother of the crew and started to flourish in his own right. In 2002 we dropped a compilation album called Fayettenam Bommuhs. This album got recognized nationally in The Source magazine. At the time, this was a huge deal. Jermaine Cole was going by the rap name Therapist, and then several years later, he would become known as the rap superstar J. Cole. In 2008 Nervous Reck took a break from music to focus on running a business and family. Filthe Ritch still dabbled in music. After 23 years, Bomm Sheltuh has reunited musically, and we just re-released our E.P. and full-length albums on all streaming platforms for the first time. Now that the spark is back, you can expect some new music to come soon.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Filthe suffered the death of both parents in the same year and has dealt with mental illness since then. Nerv had a health scare in 2018 and almost lost his life. Since then, he has had a new outlook and focuses on things that mean the most, like friends and family.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We have 2 albums available on streaming platforms. We specialize in honest hip-hop music heavily influencing east coast sound. We always took ourselves seriously but always focused on serious subjects. We tell everyone’s stories. Not just ours. linktr.ee/bommsheltuh
