Meet Hajira Yasmin (Yas) of Alray Direct Gynecology And Intimate Health Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hajira Yasmin (Yas).

Hi Hajira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I am an OBGYN with almost 2 decades of experience in Women’s health. I noted during my career that women’s health after pregnancy or fertility journey is poorly understood, supported, and served by our medical communities. The reasons are many. A few of them are – shame, stigmatization, anti-aging culture, and poor training in medical schools, residency programs, and NP/PA schools about midlife hormonal changes and sexual health changes in women. I took this upon myself and trained again after working as OBGYN attending for years to become a National Certified Menopause Specialist by the North American Menopause Society and also AASECT ( American Association of Sexuality Educators and Counselors/Therapists) Certified to serve in the field of Human Sexuality. This is to support women and folks with vagina/ vulva/ clitoris and uterus in their sexual /intimate health challenges at any time during their life span.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were obstacles in starting this niche practice to serve hormonal and intimate sexual health challenges. My biggest obstacle was my visibility. I started this practice without any big box clinic affiliations in a brand new city as I relocated here after working as a seasoned Gynecologist in the Midwest for over a decade. I was a hidden resource in many ways to women and had just arrived from the Midwest to North Carolina. My goal was to make women aware that they have every kind of help with me the health challenges that they were facing at any time in life. I wanted women to know that they have a triple-certified Gynecologist who has devoted time, resources, and expertise to give you the main steam evidence-based modern health care for your hormonal and sexual health concerns. So much has changed regarding hormones and sexual health for women, which is not being served or shared in fast mainstream health clinics. I want to change this healthcare paradigm by being more open and transparent with my patients. I want to give them evidence-based, safe, and modern services. I want to partner with them during their midlife and beyond health journey, debunking the fear, misinformation, and myths of aging and hormone therapy.

What are your plans for the future?
My big goal for my practice I would like to educate every woman who is entering at age 40 about perimenopause/menopause, the changes that are going to happen, and what are the best options available for her at that stage. My other goal is to start conversations about sexual health challenges like low libido, painful sex, lack of sexual pleasure, vaginal/ vulva dryness, orgasm /clitoral pain, etc. I aim to educate, empower and treat women and vulva/vaginal owners.
