Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Wosinski.
Hi Jacob, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began 30 years ago when I started making beaded jewelry in High School. Jacob Raymond Jewelry is named after Jacob (myself) and my grandfather Raymond, who also made jewelry. I inherited his tools and made my first official ring in 1993. For 22 years, I worked for various retail stores, where I won multiple national design awards during that time. In 2017 we took the plunge and opened our custom jewelry shop in downtown Greensboro. We are a true custom shop where everything is made the old-fashioned way. Every piece of jewelry is carved by hand and cast or metal fabricated in-house. We do not buy and sell other people’s jewelry, and most of our work comes from custom-making a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. Since opening our doors, we have won two more national design awards. Jacob Raymond has grown every year since opening its doors, and we look forward to many years of designing and making unique jewelry.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Making custom jewelry from start to finish is difficult. Many skills need to be mastered. When starting, you must realize your lack of skill and not give up. When I opened my shop, it took work. It takes many years to build up your business, especially when you’re running it on your own. However, as I stated before, perseverance is key. It is a great privilege to come to work every day doing what I love.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in one-of-a-kind custom jewelry. We pride ourselves on being a true custom shop where each customer has a unique piece.
Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say luck has had anything to do with it. Many things fell into place for us, and we truly feel it was ordained. After much patience and perseverance, we finally felt it was our time to take the plunge. Faith is very important to us, and we feel things happened exactly at the right time.
