Rising Stars: Meet Eric Lee Hardt of Carrboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Lee Hardt.

Hi Eric Lee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My story is a lot like many. I was lucky enough to be exposed to music at a young age, and it always stuck with me in one form or another. I from the violin as a very young child to drums in my youth, and eventually guitar when I was 14. I started writing songs almost immediately after getting my first guitar.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It is important to note that everyone has struggles, and no journey is the same for anyone. Specific to artists, though, the struggles sometimes come from similar places or have a root of commonality. But ultimately, we are all looking for a path to create and create sustainably.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been told my music is very lyric oriented, and I agree. The songs have always been a vessel for the words, and I think of the words and music more so as painting a picture or capturing a feeling, a snapshot in time. So many great songwriters are wonderful storytellers. I have a lot of respect for that type of writing. But I don’t think that stories are my biggest strength. I’ve always related my writing more to poetry and painting than storytelling.

Who else deserves credit for your story?
Any art takes a community and music, especially. I owe a lot to so many great people! I have had many great bandmates, friends, mentors, and everyone who comes to shows. I wouldn’t be who or where I am today without those people.
