Community Highlights: Meet Sophia Khotil of Atma Prema Holistic Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Khotil.

Hi Sophia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my path 18 years ago in holistic health from being in the medical field. I went on to receive my Reiki Master Teacher training and taught many Reiki practitioners before I decided to pursue the field of Massage Therapy. With massage being another form of working with energy, it made perfect sense to marry the two modalities in order to give my clients a multifaceted type of care. I have worked in various fields of Massage Therapy, from spas to training other therapists, to directing an establishment. In September of 2022, I decided that it was time to branch out on my own in order to deliver the kind of meticulous care that clients deserve, so Atma Prema Holistic Massage was born. Atma Prema in Sanskrit translates to unconditional self-love, and being a self-care advocate in a society that promotes burn-out, I find that it is extremely important to facilitate healing and that I provide the type of service that integrates a variety of modalities that fit each client’s needs. I am also a Sound Bath Practitioner and lead sound meditation sessions to promote deep rest and relaxation in the Triangle.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I let my career path grow and transform organically. Throughout the years, I have hit some bumps on the road where I had to reevaluate how I’d like to grow into Massage Therapy. There were definitely some difficult decisions made and facing some fears to get me to where I am today, but those experiences gave me the grit that I needed in order to manifest where Atma Prema Holistic Massage is today. Stepping out of my comfort zone helped me grow as a professional and therapist, but it was definitely not easy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Atma Prema Holistic Massage?
I am a Massage Therapist that specializes in a variety of modalities that tailor to the client’s needs. I do Fertility, Prenatal, and Postpartum massages to support mothers on the different chapters of motherhood. I also do Swedish to Deep Tissue, integrating hot stones, aromatherapy, and cupping to enhance the clients’ experience. I also do Thai Massage to improve range of motion and incorporate deep compressions with walking on the back. Shirodhara is a special Ayurvedic modality that is a meditative massage, which involves a constant stream of warm herbal oil on the third eye and is followed by a nurturing scalp massage. The herbal oil is made in-house with a blend that balances the three Doshas. My massages are all-inclusive, meaning that aromatherapy, cupping and hot stones are included so that my clients can come in and just focus on their care.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is being able to fulfill the “Why’s” of my business. It means being able to balance my work life, spending more time with my children, and being able to take more time for self-care. When you stray from your “Why’s” regardless on how much money your business is generating, you will lose that passion that you had that catapulted you into your business path in the first place.
