Today we’d like to introduce you to Starr Sullivan.
Hi Starr, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always loved nails since I was a little girl. I would spend time polishing them and decorating them with decals, and I loved everything about it! My mom treated me to a manicure for my 15th birthday, and I was immediately hooked. That was the first time I realized that doing nails could be a career. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to immediately enroll into nail school after graduating from high school. I went to college, obtained my bachelor’s degree, and got a job. But I just couldn’t shake the thought of becoming a nail technician. Years later, I finally enrolled into nail school, and it was the best decision I ever made. I absolutely LOVE when people feel great about themselves and knowing that I was a part of that. Being a nail technician is everything I thought it would be. I honestly cannot believe that I get to do this every day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! When I first expressed the desire to become a nail technician, it was not received well. Some of my family didn’t consider it a “real career.” The plan was for me to go to college and then either get a government job or attend law school. I was on the road to completing that plan, but all I thought about was doing nails. While I was in undergrad, my son, unfortunately, passed away, and that created a shift in my life and thought process. I started making a plan to attend nail school. After attending nail school, I started my nail career at a hair salon and then a day spa. While working at the day spa, I started divorce proceedings that led to me taking a break from doing nails for about 3 years. After overcoming that, I’ve been back doing nails for the last 5 years.
As you know, we’re big fans of Starr Studded Nails LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Starr Studded Nails is a small private nail salon. I specialize in natural nails, waterless pedicures, and gel nails. I’m known for my personalized manicure and pedicure services and my love of glitter! I love a good custom-blended glitter mix! I’m also known for my excellent customer service. I take the time to listen to my clients and work with my clients to create the nails that they are looking for. I love being a part of someone’s self-care, and I am grateful that they trust me with their nails. I am most proud of the fact that I have opened my own salon. It is my favorite place. I love when people come in and they feel comfortable and at peace. That is so important to me.
I want the readers to know that they can expect to receive their services in a safe and clean salon environment. I’m certified in toenail reconstruction, waterless pedicures, advance e-file dry manicure, and structured gel manicures. I’m also a licensed manicure instructor and worked as an educator for a nail company where I’ve traveled from Orlando to Chicago to Toronto to teach classes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t consider it good or bad luck. I’ve definitely had some thought life experiences. And I’ve had some amazing life experiences. Either way, I’m blessed.
