Today we’d like to introduce you to For A Dollar. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Synthesizing story-like lyrical melodies, a heavy-hitting drum-and-bass combo led by chorus-laden and overdriven guitars, For A Dollar has made a name for themselves as a premiere touring band, hailing from Southside Virginia.
For A Dollar characterizes themselves as an indie band with heavy rock influences, creating an entirely different, original sound with each song they play, as they stay adamant about their non-conformance to a specific genre. The band consists of lead singers Braiden Burke and Emily Morrison, guitarists Noah Carter and Cade Bohannon, bassist Zachary Davis, and drummer Jonathan Guynn.
For A Dollar began to hone their craft under band guitarist, and music instructor, Noah Carter at Carter’s Music & Art School in Clarksville in 2018. Through extensive lineup changes, personal growth, and the synthesis of their own unique sound, the band has formed a tight bond of friendship that is apparent in every aspect of their music-making.
Within a year, For A Dollar has played over 60 shows, have self-recorded, produced, and released two singles, and are gearing up for their first large tour starting in July of 2023, going from The Outer Banks of North Carolina to Raleigh, all the way to Charlottesville, and Washington DC, and have plans for an album in either December 2023 or Summer 2024.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road to where we are has been rough, with some obstacles that we thought would break us, but we persevered and worked hard to be where we are and are very happy with where we are now.
We went through heavy lineup changes early in our life as a band and worked to find the right lineup that was the healthiest for us going forward, and in January 2022, that lineup was finalized, and it was a breath of fresh air for the group, as we started to write heavily afterwards, and created the music we had always vied to since we started.
Recording our own singles was another very hard experience, as we were learning on our own how to produce and record, creating some hardships for ourselves as we spent over 4 months working on recording and mixing the songs to a level that we were happy with, with many disagreements along the way that put the band to the test, but in the end, we came out on the other side with two great songs that we love and mean a great deal to us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a touring indie and alternative rock band that specializes in well-known covers, and amazing originals, each with its own unique sound.
We specialize in upbeat indie rock, alternative rock, pop punk, hard rock, and psychedelic indie music. We are a very interactive and energetic live band with each member bringing a fun quirkiness to our stage persona.
We are known for creating fun shows for our crowd members and for never missing a beat when it comes to presenting our music and the music we cover, and we work hard to perfect each song we do.
Our work ethic is unmatched, and each member spends a great deal working on many different aspects of the band, from advertising to writing, to learning new songs, finding venues, and managing the minutia of band functions.
We are most proud of opening for Sara Kays, a TikTok artist, at Longwood University’s 2022 Bandfest, as well as booking our first tour all on our own and doing most of our management and booking ourselves, without an agent, but not without amazing contacts and hardworking booking managers of the phenomenal venues we play.
As for something that sets us apart from others is most definitely our sound. We perform songs that not many cover bands perform, and our originals are completely unique both to us and to each other. No one original song of ours sounds the same, creating a very interesting soundscape for listeners and crowd members. We are also on the young side while also bringing an extreme level of proficiency and expertise, which is unique to all the areas we have played in so far.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always looking for bands to perform with at larger venues to create fun and exciting bills for fans.
For any support and collaboration, following us on our social media pages such as Facebook/Instagram/TikTok, all @foradollarband is the best way to support us, as well as checking out our singles on Spotify and Apple Music and checking out our website!
Any and all support from fans either at shows or online means the absolute world to us, and we hope to hear from you or see you at a show soon!
