Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Perkins.
Hi Sylvia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Bronx, New York but raised in Columbia, South Carolina. My passion that I have always included an occupation in broadcasting, whether it’s tv or radio. I started off doing interviews within my community and with celebrities in a duo under the name of Carolina Queens, which included myself and my partner/best friend, Ta’Myia Allen. Next on my journey was a podcast called the Say More Podcast and Stay On Beat podcast. Both bodies of work lead me into being discovered by IHeart Radio and producing a midday show on 100.1 The Beat in Columbia, SC, then transferring to Charlotte, NC, to be on Streetz 103.3 radio station on the weekends. I’ve hosted numerous events and interviews, including Keke Palmer, Real Houswives of Potomac cast member Giselle Bryant, platinum recording artist Toosii, City Girls, Michael Rainey Jr from the hit show Power and many more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been bittersweet. As much wins I accomplished, there were also some losses. That comes with the territory of being the industry. The important thing is how to stay positive and adapt to the changes that are presented before you.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve known for being a radio personality in the Carolinas, Event host specialist, and podcaster. I’m most proud of my work I’ve done on radio because that has opened so many doors for me, and had the pleasure of meeting very influential individuals in the industry to help me with my craft as well. What sets me apart is my determination and creative ideas. I always believe in standing out from the crowd and remain in my own lane.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up in the Bronx and being with my family. I cherish them more than anything.
