Hidden Gems: Meet Katie Taylor of Taylor Physical Therapy and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Taylor.

Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey began, as many others did, during the beginning of Covid. We moved across the state in March of 2020, and the plan was to start a women’s health specialty for a private practice here in town. Two days after moving, the stay-at-home orders went into effect, and I was suddenly a stay-at-home mom to our young children. In the months that followed, I interviewed at both hospitals and private practices, and the same theme continued: “We need you to start a women’s health program.”

After lots of wine and Jesus, I decided to start my own practice and opened my doors in November of 2020. The early months are such a blur as this was my typical day: I was seeing 7 am patients, coming home to homeschool our kids, then go back when my husband finished working to see more patients.

What began as a one-woman show in a one-room clinic has grown into a thriving holistic women’s health practice in just two short years. We have four providers, two full-time patient care coordinators, lactation consultants, and soon plan to move into the building we just purchased.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur always comes with ups and downs. Our business has been in growth mode since we opened, which has been a blessing but certainly a challenge. Just when we feel we’ve got a good handle on how our systems are running, we need to expand and create more scalable systems to meet the growing needs of our practices (new EMR systems, new ways to track patient data, etc.)

We have been fortunate to not have dealt with the many challenges other small businesses faced during covid. I attribute that solely to the sheer need of pelvic health in our area.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a women’s pelvic health practice that specializes in perinatal care, bowel, bladder, and sexual issues as well as oncology care.

We have developed a reputation in the community as being the best around due to the compassionate care we provide, holistic nature of our treatments, and providing a peaceful and calming environment (more spa less medical feel). We offer a vastly different experience than women would have at the hospital clinics in the area.

We are passionate about others knowing about pelvic health! Women need to feel empowered about their pelvic health and understand what symptoms are common but not normal so they can get the care they need.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think there will be more private practices/cash practices that pop up across the state. The nature of health insurance in our country is pushing providers to go to an “out of network” model of care. It is simply better care with the patient’s interests in mind vs. what insurance dictates a provider can do with their patients.
