Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalice Thornton.
Hi Shalice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was always super creative growing up. I would have my hands in multiple different things. It was intriguing to me to be able to explore these different things because it would unlock new knowledge about myself as well as the world as a whole. As I got older, I began to slowly get away from my own internal voice. I started doing things because it was popular or because I wanted to fit in. I moved around a lot, so I never really felt secure within myself because I lacked a secure place to land growing up. I feel like we all go through this in life. In one way or another, we want to make everyone else happy opposed to pleasing ourselves first. I ended up losing my sense of self. It wasn’t until I went through a hard breakup that I began to pivot & find myself again. I started looking at myself in the mirror & began having those tough discussions with myself. It wasn’t easy at all, but my intuition was leading the way for once. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was starting a “spiritual journey”. To me, I was just getting closer to myself, but once I put it all together, it dawned on me that there was an actual term for this. I spent a few years reading spiritual books, meditating, praying more & taking time to dive into who I was becoming. It was truly amazing & enlightening on such a deep level. I started to experiment with fashion & styling more as well as reading tarot for others & diving deeper into my spirituality. I even started my business, Sunset Remedy LLC in 2020 as well as obtaining my life coaching certificate. I would share insights I learned on my own to help people see things in a different perspective as well as use my intuition to deliver messages to people that needed it. I also experimented with clothing. I would paint & design my own pieces, which began drawing in attention from my peers. I didn’t see it at the time, but somehow, I started inspiring people around me to become their most authentic versions of themselves. It was extremely empowering. It taught me that even though you may not understand where you’re being led, that doesn’t mean to stop following your path. People won’t comprehend what you do or even how you do it, but it’s not their life to live; it’s yours. With that, I make the conscious effort to show up as my most authentic self every day. You never know where you’ll end up or who you may impact along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve had multiple ups & downs along my journey. I went through periods where I would question myself & my own potential. This would paralyze me in place. I wouldn’t want to take action on my own visions because of self-doubt. It was a battle. However, I realized that those emotions were coming from a place within myself that was just afraid. I wasn’t afraid to fail but to actually succeed. Self-doubt has less to do with feeling like you’re going to fail but more about the inner knowing you have to succeed in your endeavor & fearing that you won’t be able to uphold it long term. I had to break out of this mindset & began to encourage myself more as well as celebrating my wins. Having an open dialect with both my mom and dad would also assist me when I began to question myself too. They’ve been my biggest supporters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to refer to myself as a multifaceted creative. I have my own business Sunset Remedy LLC which allows me to express myself spiritually as well as help guide those that may need it but I also express myself through fashion & styling, which is where I work at creating different unique pieces & looks. I like to style with pieces I find in secondhand thrift stores. I believe that we aren’t meant to just be one thing. This not only gives me freedom to be myself but also allows me to express my emotions through more ways than one.
I feel like I’m most proud of my growth as a whole. Mainly because I would’ve never thought this journey would impact other people as well. Focusing on self creates a ripple effect in the collective that is extremely powerful & rewarding for all of us.
What sets me apart from others is my strong sense of faith. I had to go through those tough periods of doubt to get me to where I am today. Each lesson only brought me closer to my purpose, which is to simply be myself.
What does success mean to you?
I feel like the definition of success is inner peace. I never felt like it had anything to do with external accolades or achievement. It’s more about the peace within yourself as you journey along your path. Anytime I would achieve something big in life, it would feel more rewarding to reflect on the journey in getting to it rather than focusing on the physical achievement. As long as I was able to maintain my peace & connect with something deeper along the way, then I truly feel the most fulfilled.
