Today we’d like to introduce you to Angeliyah Fredette.
Hi Angeliyah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I had a challenging childhood in California. I grew up in an abusive household: substance abuse and domestic violence. I ran away from home at the age of 14. I had nothing, nowhere to sleep, no food, and no foreseeable future. One day, I was picked up by a truancy officer and placed in a group home. During my time in the group home, I learned about life, other children with troubled pasts, and myself. After nearly a year in the group home, I moved to New York to live with my father. My dad was strict and ruled with an iron fist, so college was mandatory after high school graduation. I was set to attend Garner Webb University in the fall, but something felt off; I did not want to go. One day, a postcard for the United States Navy detailing the benefits of joining. The next day I went to the recruiting office and joined the US Navy. I came home that evening and told my dad, “I joined the Navy today, and I leave in 9 days!” He was in disbelief and upset, but I was committed to the decision. Nine days later, at 5 am, the recruiters came to our home, picked me up, and started my military career. I served over nine years in the US Navy; it was my best job and decision. During my service, I worked in finance, participated in humanitarian acts, went to war, added in military champagnes, and found my purpose. My purpose is to help others, be selfless, and be supportive. After the Navy, I continued in finance; I worked at a few large banks. A friend told me about a small community bank that assists minority clients. He told me I would finally have a voice and be able to help underserved community members. I jumped at the opportunity and worked there for nearly three years. I learned valuable lessons while working there. I witnessed the challenges in the African American community. Generations of clients were financially illiterate, suffered from bad credit, and were living paycheck to paycheck. Those clients showed me a cavity in the system. I felt obligated to do more. I enrolled in a master’s of public health program and learned how I can make a positive social impact. I used my passion to help others, knowledge of a flawed system, and education to create, All Equity Matters, LLC. We aim to provide everyone with the resources, education, and opportunities they deserve to live a healthy life.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path has been anything but smooth. Working as a bank manager full-time, being a mother, a wife, and a full-time graduate student, was challenging. Some personal relationships were sacrificed, and hard lessons were learned. I caught Covid-19 and was sick for over a month; a couple of months later, my son contracted Covid-19. Schools were closed for about six months due to Covid-19, so I became a part-time teacher to my son. Unfortunately, I lost three family members during the last year of the master’s program.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.

I appreciate your honesty. It takes courage to be transparent. That transparency will help and lead others to not only seek your advice but help them to help themselves as well as others. It’s a necessity to see others, that look like me, achieve their goals and continue to dream.
Well done my dear sister, well done!
