Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Littlefield and Kristi Wood.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our families met in NH at a campground. Years later, both of us along with our families decided to move to NC to escape the cold/snowy winters in NH.
Lisa Littlefield and her family moved first, and the Wood family moved less than a year after.
Once we were in the area, we both discussed the possibility of having our own home decor shop, as we had once discussed in the past. We decided that now was the perfect time. It took us several months to secure a location, but once we found one, things really started moving along.
Our husbands (both named Kevin) spent all their free time over about a month building out our beautiful checkout counter and flower cart, using pieces of a very large free wardrobe we found on Facebook marketplace.
We finally got to the point of scheduling our grand opening for May 6th after lots of hard work!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest challenge was trying to find a location to rent. We spent some days driving around and writing down contact information for local spaces to lease that were empty. Sadly, most of the places never returned our phone call.
One day I was driving by a local restaurant that was temporarily closed, and I saw that they were moving tables out. I decided to message them and ask about leasing from them, and it all worked out and was meant to be. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Lisa is a mortgage underwriter, and Kristi is a former lunch lady.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Well, starting a small business in this kind of economy is definitely a risk. We feel that by both of us coming together in this business venture, it helps us be more confident in taking the risk to start this business.
We both love to shop for the kinds of products we will be selling.
