Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan McCluskey.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
A born and raised Jersey Girl, I moved to the Triangle in 2016. While not quite as random as throwing a dart at a map, I chose Apex as my new home because it had just been named the Best Place to Live in America. And if you are starting over somewhere new, why not pick the best? It was love at first sight!
After meeting what seemed like the hundredth person from NJ, we joked that “someone should start a group!” So, in August 2016 I made a Facebook group – Jersey Girls of the Triangle. A group for relocated Jersey Girls of “all ages and stages.” I hoped to maybe make a few friends to go see a movie with. We had our first dinner in February 2017 and today we have almost 1600 members, several sub-groups, and amazing admin team. With members who have lived here for decades to newcomers who still have the U-Haul in their driveway, we meet once a month for laughter, friendship, and support.
In 2022 I changed the name to “Jersey Girls of North Carolina.” While the majority of our members are in the Triangle, we do welcome all relocated Jersey Girls – from the mountains to the coast and every place in between!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am very proud of how positive, engaging, and supportive everyone is! We have only had to pause the group one time, and that was over a very heated “pork roll vs. Taylor ham” debate!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work in property management, started as a leasing agent when I moved to North Carolina. What was supposed to be a “fun job” until I found something in my prior field has turned into a career that I love. Currently, I have my real estate license in three states and manage townhome communities in North and South Carolina.
In true Jersey fashion, I’ve “got a guy” for everything – I love networking and connecting people! Whether you need a realtor, beekeeper, custom shirt designer, mechanic…I am happy to share who and what I know.
