Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Mudd.
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a spooky lifestyle content creator on Instagram and YouTube! My name is Jordan, and I started my Instagram account in 2019 when I was pregnant with my first son. I wanted to document my pregnancy and connect with other soon-to-be parents and people starting following along. After giving birth, I realized I didn’t want to be a family content creator. I wanted to respect my son’s privacy, now and future, so I stopped sharing family-based content and started making cottage-core content. The cottage core aesthetic was big at the time, and I thought it was cute, but it didn’t really feel like me. I felt like I was just sharing what I thought people cared about, and I didn’t want to do that. My main goal was to just be authentic.
So, I started sharing what I really loved; Halloween, spooky aesthetics, and the magical moments in every season of the year.
Once I started sharing authentically, sharing what I loved, I started gaining more traction on Instagram. More people started following along, and I started getting brand collaborations. I have made so many great friends on Instagram and have even met some of them in person! One of my friends I made had a YouTube channel, and she encouraged me to take the jump and create my own, and I did a few months ago! I am so thankful for every single follower, subscriber, and friend I have made. It is always so crazy to me still that people care about me, what I post, and what I have to say, but I am just so thankful. My goal is always to make everyone feel like they have stumbled into the corner of the internet that they are welcome in. A spooky, cozy little corner that feels like home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the hardest part is truly the imposter syndrome. Like I mentioned before, sometimes you get into a headspace where you’re like, “Why do they care about this? Will anyone even care about this? Am I doing enough? Am I enough”. And it stinks. But every single person I have ever met on the apps I create on has shown me nothing but kindness and support, and they really pull me back down to earth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lifestyle content creator on Instagram and YouTube. I would say I am most known for my Halloween content. Halloween is one of my favorite things in the world, and I really do it up big, on the internet with my content and offline as well. I do all kinds of fun photos on Instagram and reels as well. I try to do everything from costumes to aesthetic photos to Halloween humor even. I am most proud of the authenticity I bring. I never try to pretend to be anything I am not. I post on Instagram stories a lot just to chat with my followers, and I never try to hide anything that I feel like others do. If I’m broke at the moment, I’ll say it. If I’m not in a good mental space and I’m feeling bummed, I’ll say it. I think it’s important to let others know as a creator that you’re not always happy and aren’t just rich all of the time. I think that’s how a lot of people get into bad mental spaces themselves because they start playing the comparison game.
One thing I do try to do to set myself apart from others is share affordable options when I share links. Before I started my accounts, I was always bummed when a creator would share a link to a sweater or something, and I would click it because it was cute, and then it would be $250?! That was just always ridiculous to me and made me feel bad. But the reality is, I can’t just drop $250 on a sweater, and most other people can’t either. So, I try to share things that are affordable and things that are splurge items, so there is always options.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I live in Fredericksburg, VA.
My favorite thing about it is the Downtown Fredericksburg. The atmosphere has my heart, and I even lived there for a year when I was younger. I love the shops, all of the live music and events that happen, and the energy in general.
My least favorite thing about living here is the cost. It is very expensive just to exist here.
