Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Taylor.
Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
At the young age of 14 years old, I became an event promoter in my hometown of Brooklyn, New York. While promoting different events throughout the city for years, I’ve noticed how over-saturated the nightlife scene has become, which at the time started to make me feel quite discouraged due to the venue owners wanting new faces and wanted to keep a young crowd; it was kind of difficult for me, since I was only getting older. Fast forward to the age of 20, I had a friend at the time that asked me, “Jasmine, the party scene is getting watered down; how about trying to do internet radio with me? I’m sure you’ll like it. You have the connections and the following; you’re going to win at it.” I thought about it for a few minutes, and I was on board. So, in January 2013, I began my career as an on-air media personality. Throughout the years, I have helped multiple digital streaming stations grow their brands, network, and reach. Along my journey as a media personality, I have also been nominated for multiple awards as well as winning the “Best Media Personality” award in 2022 by CityRokMusicGroup in New York. Being a media personality has given me the opportunity to interview talents/acts and businesses from all over the world, both mainstream and up-and-coming.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When it comes to my career path, it hasn’t always been the smoothest. There have been plenty of times when I’ve wanted to call it quits simply because I’ve either seen people with less skill and experience be in rooms I feel as if I’ve worked hard enough to be in as well as the lack of creative juices flowing. Not to mention, for the majority of my career, I’ve been experiencing domestic violence. So having to put on a smile, literally after getting abused, was extremely challenging for me, I’m sure it would be for anyone. Which is why, instead of continuing to be a victim, I started speaking out in regards to my experience and helping other women and men with a safe haven at my year-to-year Domestic Violence Awareness events in October by providing attendees with resources they may need to help survive and/or start their healing journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jasmine Taylor is a 10-year radio and media personality, domestic violence advocate, and a brand ambassador for a Brooklyn, NY clothing line, D.I.R.T.B.O.M.B Fresh Clothing. I specialize in catering to authenticity and providing a platform for others to freely express themselves and creativity. I am known for my raw style of interviewing and throwing Pop-Up Shops with a purpose. When it comes to my brand, I am most proud of myself for remaining consistent throughout all of the obstacles that have been thrown my way as well as winning the “Best Media Personality” award in September 2022. When it comes to differentiation between myself and others, I would genuinely say that I am setting apart from others because I don’t follow the “in” crowd. I make my own rules and stay true to the Jasmine Taylor Tv brand, “Catering to authenticity, where the underdogs WIN!”
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout my career journey is to stop doubting myself, don’t be afraid to ask for help, don’t share ideas with everyone, because everyone doesn’t have your best interest and to simply think logically and make wise decisions.
