Hidden Gems: Meet Sara Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Martin.

Sara Martin

Hi Sara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I’m Sara Martin.  Wife, mother of three boys, and a third-generation real estate agent. When I got married and had kids I assumed I had to stop working to stay home to raise my kids. I homeschooled my kids for many years and decided to go back to work. I loved homeschooling but really wanted to do something I was inspired to do as a child.

My journey into real estate started when I was younger around 10 years old, I would help my Grandparents answer phones at their real estate company over the summer.  I started to help my Mother who is also an agent. These woman gave me such inspiration to succeed. My grandmother had such a beautiful home in Canyon Lake CA, and was such a beautiful person. Watching her do real estate as a kid was just so inspiring to me. I began working as a transaction coordinator.  When interviewed, I was asked why I didn’t become a real estate agent myself because I talked so highly of the position and agents and that led me to really ask myself why can’t I too!

I have endured many ups and downs in life, but it has never stopped me from pressing on. I looked back to the influences in my life and the people who truly were inspiring and believe that really helped me decide where to go in this field.

I think the personal connection has lost its touch in this fast-paced, remote, less connected lifestyle of today. Entering a one-on-one connection with people and a face-to-face atmosphere win at all costs. Being in a personable industry, connection is so important! I really enjoy finding and fulfilling my client’s needs and wants.  I have always thrived on relationship building and getting to know people on a personal level. There’s nothing like it in the world.

I want to inspire mothers, wives, and women, in general, to remember that you can do anything you set your mind to.  You can start from where you’re at with what you have.  Sometimes we feel like goals and dreams are so far from reality, but “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” says the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

We can become inspired to work hard towards our dreams to become very successful. Life is short, and there’s no better time to start than now!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My husband had actually lost his job, and we were faced with moving back to CA and coming back to NC in the same year. There had always been struggles along the way, that’s life. It’s how I was able to remain calm and focused that forced my way through the tough times.

When you are faced with various trials, the main focus is not to let them affect you too much. Bad things happen to good people, it’s part of life. How we respond shapes us. I had always relied on checklists and goal sheets. When we were forced to go back home to California, we thought it was safe because it’s where we had come from. We went back and realized we weren’t making the right choice. We had unfinished business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
My husband and I met back in 1998. We have been together since we met. He has been my main supporter and best friend. We got married in 2007, and that December, we had our first son Preston. Three boys later, I am asked how can you work with three kids? when I was asked that. I thought to myself, what am I supposed to do die on the inside, and never live or breathe again? I like to consider myself a home matchmaker, wife, mother, and dream builder! I decided to sell homes, and I can do that quite well with my three kids and supportive husband.

Many great women have kids and never gave up their dreams, and I won’t either. I wake up every morning, get my coffee, and it’s a new day. There’s always joy in the morning. I love the quiet time when your home is still silent, and you can check emails and prepare for the day. I would write out an email the night before and the morning of I can always add to my list. Being organized has helped me so much. My parents were super organized and tidy. I learned from them at a young age hustle and work ethic.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I hope I can inspire anyone out there who has ever felt like they want to take the next step into a dream or goal to just do it, get up and work hard every day. Keep a log of how this made you feel today. Keep a to-do list every day. Before you go to bed, email yourself tomorrow’s action plan! Wake up and execute! Tonight, before you go to bed, email yourself or write a list out and think of everything you want to accomplish. Set up some short-term goals and mid-goals as well as long-term goals. When times get tough, go back to your emails or lists and how much you got done. You will see how truly far you have gone.
