Hi Lake, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in the charming town of Linden, North Carolina, I was surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit community. From a young age, I developed a strong connection to the values of hard work, creativity, and community engagement that continue to shape my journey to this day. 

My path initially led me to a captivating five-year career as a TV news producer and reporter. In those exhilarating years, I learned to capture stories that resonated with people, crafting narratives that were not only informative but also deeply impactful. This experience laid the foundation for my passion for storytelling and ignited my curiosity about the intricate ways in which perceptions are shaped. 

As I transitioned into the realm of marketing and branding, I brought my storytelling skills with me. My role as the CEO of LWood Solutions has allowed me to leverage the power of narrative to elevate brands, helping businesses communicate their essence and values to the world. With a strong belief that every brand has a unique story to tell, I’ve dedicated myself to creating strategies that not only capture attention but also build lasting connections. 

Beyond the boardrooms and office walls, I find immense joy in contributing to my community. Serving on the Board of Directors for the Erwin Chamber of Commerce has provided me with the opportunity to give back to the local businesses that form the backbone of our region’s prosperity. It’s a privilege to be part of initiatives that foster growth, collaboration, and economic vitality. 

My foray into event management has been equally fulfilling. As the Executive Director of the Little River Days Festival Franchise and the Central NC Wedding Expo, I’ve been fortunate to orchestrate experiences that bring people together in celebration. From the vibrant festivities of the festival to the magical moments of weddings, I take pride in curating occasions that leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who attend. 

In the midst of this busy journey, I’ve found solace and inspiration in the simple joys of life. Hiking through nature’s beauty, capturing the world’s moments through my lens, cherishing quality moments with my family, embarking on travel adventures, and exploring the hidden treasures of North Carolina’s small towns—all of these experiences enrich my soul and invigorate my spirit. 

Born and raised in Linden, I am deeply connected to my roots. They remind me of the values that have guided me thus far—integrity, perseverance, and a genuine love for people. My story is a testament to the potential that lies within each of us, waiting to be nurtured and expressed. It’s a story of evolution, a journey that continues to unfold, and a commitment to making a positive impact every step of the way. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been a tapestry woven with challenges that have played a significant role in shaping the person I am today. From enduring the pain of bullying during my school years to navigating the complex landscape of the corporate world, and then confronting the unprecedented hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic, each of these experiences has imparted invaluable lessons. 

The early years of my education were marred by the cruel shadow of bullying. It was a time that taught me the importance of resilience, self-belief, and finding my inner strength. Those experiences underscored the significance of kindness, empathy, and the power of rising above negativity. Overcoming these challenges gave me a deep appreciation for authenticity and self-assuredness. 

Transitioning into the corporate world brought forth a new set of trials. The competitive environment demanded unwavering commitment and a continuous thirst for growth. The long hours, demanding deadlines, and the need to balance multiple responsibilities shaped my work ethic, honed my problem-solving skills, and reinforced the significance of adaptability. The challenges of the corporate world pushed me to explore my limits and discover untapped potential. 

As if that wasn’t enough, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic threw the world into turmoil. Navigating through the uncertainties of this global crisis was a test of both professional and personal resilience. Adapting strategies, reimagining business models, and finding innovative ways to connect with clients and communities became the order of the day. This period underscored the importance of agility, creative thinking, and the unwavering human spirit to thrive in adversity. 

Moreover, my journey has been uniquely influenced by my experience with attention deficit disorder (ADD). While ADD comes with its challenges, it has also been a wellspring of strength. It has nurtured my ability to think outside the box, pivot quickly, and approach problems from unconventional angles. It has taught me that diversity in thought and experience is a potent catalyst for innovation and positive change. 

Reflecting on my journey, I’ve come to see obstacles not as stumbling blocks but as steppingstones towards growth. They’ve shaped my character, deepened my compassion, and provided me with a reservoir of skills that extend far beyond professional endeavors. My journey, characterized by triumphs over adversity, resilience against bullying, corporate challenges, and the pandemic, is a testament to the indomitable spirit that propels us forward, fostering our evolution into the people we are destined to become. 

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Discovering mentors within local Chamber of Commerce organizations like the Erwin Area Chamber of Commerce, the Coats Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Coats-Erwin Business Network has been an invaluable journey of growth and guidance for me. As I embarked on my professional path, these chambers proved to be more than just networking platforms; they became sources of inspiration and support that propelled me forward.
