Daily Inspiration: Meet Keagan “lowkeyprose”

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keagan “lowkeyprose”.

Keagan Jackson

Hi Keagan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all began in middle school playing Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball on my Xbox. I would write pages and pages of fan fiction based on all the characters in the video game, and I created entire worlds within my journals. I’ve been writing ever since then and competed in poetry slams in high school, but it wasn’t until my senior year of college that I started to post my own poetry online. It started off as “thirst trap prose,” where I would write ‘rizz’ and romantic poetry. I was faceless for many years until I was comfortable with being seen and actually wanting to be seen. I started to show my face more and began performing in open mics in the Charlotte area. I posted my performances online, and one went viral on TikTok. That video has 2 million views today! I have been blessed at every step. Everything has led me to here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. I started my account back in 2018-2019. I gave up, quit entirely, rebranded, and reformatted my content so many times to figure out what kind of artist I wanted to be. I have consistently felt like I wasn’t good enough and that my work didn’t deserve praise, all while dealing with broken friendships, breakups, shitty landlords, and shitty people. My environment played a major role in my capabilities of creating art. When I graduated and moved back to my hometown, Charlotte, my artistic struggles became easier to overcome because there were more creative spaces like Release Therapy, Eclectic Soul Sessions, Evening Muse, and Wine About Poetry – making me a better poet, creator, and friend.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer and content creator. I specialize in romantic poetry, but I have delved into many topics such as depression, womanhood, and societal standards. I am most known for my spoken word poetry and ‘rizzing’ content. I write lines that would be romantic or fun to say in real life because I don’t believe that romance should be reserved for film and tv. We are the blueprint of cinema. We are the art that we draw inspiration from, so why not say something poetically outlandish that could make someone else’s day? That’s why I’m proud of the impact my content has given to so many women. I get messages all the time about how my ‘rizz’ and poetry have helped foster relationships and create new ones, all while giving women the confidence to live life audaciously. I believe that’s what sets me apart. I write about love that exists because I do. I am a reflection of all the love that’s been given to me so others can see themselves too.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Skating at Kate’s Skate in Indian Trail, NC. I went to summer camp there when I was younger and those were the greatest moments of my childhood. Skating, listening to 2000s music, and not having a care in the world. I have dreams about skating on that rink sometimes when my body needs to rollerblade. I still skate to this day! It’s one of my favorite hobbies.
