Hidden Gems: Meet Justin Bohannon of Affordable Solutions HVAC & Electrical

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Bohannon.

Hi Justin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers. 
I grew up in a family that fixes their own vehicles. From an early age, I worked with my dad hanging drywall or tinkering or a car or boat, so I learned to be handy. When I went to college at East Carolina University, I started a part-time job at an apartment complex as a porter. We were the Swiss army knife of repairmen, working on many things from ovens to carpets to air conditioners. I found the air conditioners interesting, and I was good at fixing them. I knew by this time that I wanted to work for myself, and I thought an air conditioning repair company would provide me the opportunity to both be an entrepreneur and also keep my community comfortable. Once I graduated, I spent another few years working for other heating and air companies, expanding my experience and confidence. In 2014, I started my company, Affordable Solutions HVAC, LLC, as a one-man and a truck operation. Within a few years, I hired my first employee, and today we’ve added electrical and generator services with five full-time employees and a few part-time employees as well. 

I’m excited about some of the changes we are launching. We’ve just opened an office in Raleigh, and we are also 

planning a rebranding starting early next year. Our focus is still on providing phenomenal customer service plus a quality product. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my biggest struggles was that I started out doing work for home warranty companies. There was a lot of paperwork, and service was complicated because we were a third party to the homeowner through the warranty company, and the home warranty company was our customer. It took some time to figure out how to advertise and attract our own customers.

We are known for our phenomenal customer service plus a quality product and that is how we set ourselves apart from our competition. We care about our customers and their experience and stand behind our work. We have won a WRAL Voter’s Choice Award and Nextdoor’s Neighborhood Faves award. We are family and locally owned. 

What do you think about happiness?
I have a wife and two young children. Spending time with them makes me happy. I also enjoy working with my employees providing feedback, and watching them develop their skills and get more confident in their work. In my free time, I enjoy fishing because I have always found it relaxing and sharing a good meal of fresh fish with my family.
