Check Out Brittany Spivey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Spivey.

Brittany Spivey

Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I come from a family of singers and musicians. My mother had 4 children who sang. She started writing songs for us, and we started traveling and performing when I was age 6.

As an adult, I ended up working as a chorus teacher in the public school system and also worked as a backing vocalist. My mother was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was scheduled for open-heart surgery. I decided to not return to my teaching job that summer, moved my mother in with me, and started by business Spivey Vocal Consulting.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has had its challenges. When I started my business, I had no idea what I was doing and no time to plan or prepare. I had to figure things out on the spot while being a mother myself and taking care of my mother. It was extremely difficult, but I had to make it work. I had to keep pushing. There was no backup plan for me. There was no “plan b”.

I think sometimes entrepreneurship is romanticized. The reality is it can be very difficult. I’ve learned if it’s something you truly believe in, you’ll find a way.

April of 2022, my mother, Donna, passed away tragically. Her passing was the turning point for me in my business. There were days where I wanted to quit, but I believe in my work and my mission. I believe I am operating fully in my purpose. I wouldn’t be an entrepreneur if it wasn’t for my mother.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I run a Vocal Consulting Company for singers, public speakers, artists, and individuals who have experienced vocal trauma. The focus of Spivey Vocal is to create a space for the creative to free themselves by using their voice and their art.

Spivey Vocal also has a line of Vocal Tea products that help to restore the voice.

Traditional Vocal Coaches focus on just the voice. My company focuses not only on the voice but by teaching our clients how to use their voice to create. We do this by working to release spiritual blockages in the voice, by affirmations, music, training, and mentorship.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was a little girl, I remember my mother taking the four of us to the end of a rainbow. Now that my mom has since passed away, this memory has become one that I hold close to my heart. She loaded up her white Buick Regal with red hot seats and chased a rainbow just for us. When we got to the end of the rainbow, I remember us all getting out of the car and standing under the rainbow. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

This memory is symbolic for me. It shows I can make it to the end of anything, the matter how long or impossible the chase seems.
