Meet Allison Willet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Willet.

Allison Willet

Hi Allison, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I come from a musical family, and I started playing violin at a young age. I love singing and playing a variety of instruments, and I have degrees from Appalachian State and UNCG in violin performance. I lived with chronic back pain from a car accident that I was involved in as a teenager, and so I started doing yoga at age 30. Because I am the type of person who 100% to anything that I do, I became a yoga teacher. Now, I am still a professional musician, and I love teaching music lessons in addition to yoga.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love being a freelancer; it gives me a lot of flexibility and variety, but it’s usually alternating between flood and drought. One of the valuable lessons from yoga that I’ve learned is how to maintain my balance between those two extremes. When things are too busy, I find time for myself to maintain my physical and mental health, and when I have less work, I feel grateful for the extra time to pursue my passion projects.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a violinist, and I specialize in music from the Baroque period, music composed between 1600-1750. I even have several authentic instruments from that time.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My health matters most to me. Physical health affects mental health and vice versa. When I’m at my best, I can pour myself into music and better guide my students. My personal relationships also improve, and I think that has the butterfly effect going out into the rest of the world.
