Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Glaspie of G2 Business Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Glaspie.

Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story? 
I spent over a decade in the military as a Green Beret in US Army Special Forces. That career took me all over the world and provided me with opportunities to see the world through different lenses. During my time serving, I decided that I wanted to find another option to make money beyond the military paycheck. I found my calling in real estate. I started investing in 2014 which grew into co-founding a real estate agency group in 2019. All while serving Active Duty in the military, I found these two companies had grown to over 130 rental properties and over 150 real estate agents across the nation. As I was finishing up my MBA, and the companies required less and less of my time, I was offered a position as a CFO for a small private equity company that focused on hospitality investments such as hotels and motels. This is where I discovered my passion for real estate and finance problem-solving would finally meet. After two years in that position, I decided to open my own Fractional CFO firm designed to help real estate entrepreneurs build profitable businesses so they can life the lifestyle they derserve. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Throughout the entrepreneurial journey, there are always ups and downs. There were times when I thought I would need to foreclose on some of my properties due to the lack of rental income. There were times when I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars on a flip project because we grossly underestimated the budget. One of my biggest struggles was the transition from military to normal civilian life. Although I already had a few businesses up and running nothing could have prepared me for the mental battle of transitioning out of the military. All of these experiences have helped me become the person I am today, but even so, I’m still at the beginning of the learning journey.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Business – For starting out in your business my best piece of advice is to take bookkeeping seriously. If you don’t have the time, skill, or energy to do it yourself then hire it out. Lack of bookkeeping will cause a sequence of painstaking problems without the possibility of finding a solution. The answer to every business problem can be found in the numbers. Don’t let the numbers scare you or prevent you from taking action. Just find a bookkeeper who knows your industry and start there. 

Personal – Don’t forget to enjoy life while building your dreams. This was a hard lesson for me to learn. Living a life on the go and always looking to accomplish something more often led to me forgetting to enjoy the moment. Over the past few years, I have been snapped back into reality more than once with a reminder that life is short.
