Inspiring Conversations with Krissy Martin of Freedom & Abundant Life Coaching and Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krissy Martin.

Krissy Martin

Hi Krissy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I began teaching in the state of North Carolina in 2003 and have since served in various capacities in area schools and districts for over two decades. Currently, I hold a district administrative role in northeastern North Carolina. While my passion is dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for K-12 students and schools, my commitment extends beyond my career as a public educator.

In 2014, I found myself in mountains of debt and immense emotional turmoil. I did not know where to begin to put the pieces of my life back together, but I regained an affinity for God’s Word. Through the application of Biblical principles, I peeled back layers of hurt, guilt, shame, betrayal, unworthiness, unforgiveness, and more. Determined to help other women and children who were suffering from the consequences of unhealthy relationships, I enrolled in a 22-week life coaching certification program in 2015, where I met amazing aspiring life coaches. Under the leadership and guidance of a seasoned Master Coach, each student not only received certification but also gained a renewed perspective on the power of life coaching.

In 2016, I became a certified life coach and co-founded Freedom & Abundant Life Coaching and Consulting, LLC (FALCC, LLC). I am grateful for opportunities to provide in-person and virtual individual and group life coaching, financial literacy education, motivational speaking, workshop development and facilitation, and travel consulting services to my clients. Additionally, I have authored four books and, for the past seven years, written monthly articles for my church’s newsletter. Since January 2023, I have shared ‘Coach Martin’s Wednesday Word’ via select social media platforms to L.I.T.E. (Lift, Inspire, Teach, Enlighten) readers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During FALCC’s early stages, time constraints were a significant challenge, given my dual roles as a full-time educator and business owner. Despite the scarcity of time, I recognized the importance of consistent visibility for brand building. I strategically allocated specific times for marketing and intentional availability. This effort paid off, leading to a “booked and busy” schedule in 2018 and 2019, and 2020 was shaping up to be even busier.

However, the onset of the pandemic disrupted FALCC’s momentum. Speaking engagements were postponed, travel plans canceled, and clients understandably prioritized health and survival over other pursuits. As a small business, adaptability became crucial. Shifting from in-person to virtual events, improving social media presence, and maintaining a focus on personalized customer experiences allowed FALCC to navigate challenges effectively. Our business remains committed to identifying problems and creating purposeful solutions while ensuring customer satisfaction.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Freedom & Abundant Life Coaching and Consulting, LLC (FALCC, LLC) is a dedicated agency engaging clients in co-creative processes and goal setting to achieve desired outcomes. Our specialization includes individual and group life coaching, financial literacy workshop development and facilitation, and travel planning.

What I find most gratifying is the significant expansion of our brand over the years. Initially focused on individual life coaching for adults and group financial literacy education sessions, we now serve a diverse clientele ranging from early elementary students to retired professionals. Our reach extends beyond North Carolina, encompassing speaking engagements and workshop delivery outside of our state.

What sets me apart is my extensive experience as an educator, allowing me to teach both young learners and adults. As a results-driven lifelong learner, I continuously stay informed about research and creatively apply best practices from my education career to my role as a life coach and consultant.

My services are highly customizable to cater to the unique needs of my clients. I’ve successfully conducted group life coaching sessions and financial literacy workshops for diverse audiences, including elementary and secondary students, college students, and adults in various stages of life. Additionally, I offer professional development on a variety of relevant topics for educators.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
1. Determine what you hope to gain from mentorship or networking. This will guide your search.

2. When attending conferences, seminars, workshops, and local and virtual events, carry your business cards or use applications to easily share contact information.

3. Optimize your social media profiles by connecting and interacting with professionals in your industry. Join professional associations and online forums related to your interests.

4. Volunteer your time and skills to causes or events you care about to meet people with shared interests and values.

5. Ask colleagues or friends if they know of anyone who could be a good mentor for you. Personal recommendations can be powerful.

What has worked well for me is following up with a personalized email or text expressing my gratitude and interest in staying connected after meeting someone new.
