Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Smith.

Ashley Smith

Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lap of Luxury was curated in 2021, the world was shut down, and I was struggling to find the light at the end of the tunnel. I always loved the idea of getting dressed and being active after all I was a nursing student, full-time mom, and nursing extern at the hospital. Going from such an active life to being home majority of the day with my at the time 4-year-old had me not feeling or looking my best. Most days I wouldn’t even get dressed. One day after having a come to Jesus’ moment with myself I sat and asked what could I do to get out of my depression, after meditating and sitting with myself for quite a while I took out my journal and began to write down 2 things: get dressed every day and start taking pictures. I loved fashion and photography; in fact, I had a side hustle as a photographer the year prior. So that’s what I started to do get dressed in my loungewear and posting to social media, making reels showing my loungewear styled different ways; next thing you know Lap of Luxury was born, offering loungewear and stylish ways to wear them at home and on the go. Two years later, the goal is still about offering clothing luxuries that can adapt to your ever-changing lifestyle.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was not easy by far, it’s one thing to come up with the idea of a business but it’s another thing to actually start it, especially if you’re like me, a person with no prior knowledge or training as it pertains to business and I think that was the most difficult part about becoming a business owner.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Est. 2021, Lap of Luxury is a bespoke fashion brand curated to provide a sense of comfort and wealth with every piece of clothing worn. We believe clothing should be stylish and versatile to fit your ever-changing lifestyle. Our goal for our consumers are to embody the feeling of living in their very own Lap of Luxury with every item purchased. We believe our CEO and her mission to source and provide clothing pieces that are versatile and practical for every woman and the many hats of life she wear is what sets our boutique apart from others. In today’s economy being practical and multi-versed isn’t just limited to skillset but with every facet of life including wardrobe, and as we evolve as a brand our mission at Lap of Luxury is to continue to provide clothing that still allows you to feel your very own Lap of Luxury no matter the occasion.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk-taking! Let’s just say taking a risk on yourself and your dreams in life will give you a feeling not too many other things in life can. As a new business, the first 5 years are the hardest and I can attest to being tested time and time again as a solo-prenuer business gets murky and you can lose sight of your goal and why you started. However, if I had to do it all over I would, I believe risk is an important part of business, believing in a vision only you can see is not only a risk but it’s scary I’ve always believed in feeling the fear, and doing it anyways during my graduation ceremony my tag line was ” Your lap of luxury comes, once you feel the fear and do it anyway”. I live by a few quotes, one is Write the vision and make it plain, though it may linger do not weary, for it will come at an appointed time! So yes, I believe risks are vital to being successful.
