Life & Work with Sebastian Martinez Sevilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Martinez Sevilla.

Sebastian Martinez Sevilla

Sebastian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jesus Sebastian Martinez Sevilla; I am from Colombia, I studied Graphic Design and Business Administration. In Colombia, I was working in the education sector and with communities. One of my jobs at the INSPIRA Corporation was photography and making videos in each project that was carried out. The truth is that I have always liked photography, content creation, animation, and related topics, they were my hobbies, but then I decided to do it as a professional and it was the best decision.

When I arrived to the United States in 2021, I had to change my focus because my level of English was basic and I could not work in any school as a teacher because of the language, so I worked in a Latin company. In September 2022, my wife and I joined a Colombian dance group, and I offered to do what I love, so I started with photography and create content for social networks.

At the BOY of 2023, I decided to start working with content creation and social media full-time and started looking for new clients. That’s how I met a real estate agency, a gym (@IFITFayettteville), and entrepreneurial people. When I made content the first month, I realized that I need a camera to improve pictures and videos so I decided to buy my first camera because I was working with my phone and a friend’s camera. Definitely, buying my first camera was the best decision. I remember the camera arrived on a Friday and I was so excited that I told my wife to get ready for some photos at 2:00 am, and the result was incredible. So, I started studying photography again. Little by little, I acquired new tools, but I also began to analyze the market, the area, and what was needed.

In August, after returning from Colombia, I decided not to wait any longer and started Studio SM2, my business and personal brand. At first, I had thought of something like SM2 Creative and other names, but I decided to use “Studio SM2” because of the vision I have and what I want with my brand. Since then, I continue working on my project, and I continue studying to learn more about photography and content creation in social networks.

Thanks to various spaces I have been in, I have met entrepreneurs who have asked for and used my graphic design consulting services, social media classes, photography, and content creation. I know that @StudioSM2 is just starting, and I know that there are many people who are dedicated to this, but each personal brand offers a different experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, there are days of ups and downs, there are days that are more creative, and there are other days that are not. Like all people, there come moments of anxiety and stress when thinking about the goal of the month, but if we know how to manage our emotions and accept the way things happen, these situations become an opportunity. My biggest challenge since I arrived in the United States is to improve my level of English, and my goal is to be able to have a conversation with a native for more than 30 minutes. As for @StudioSM2, my biggest challenge is being able to impact with the quality of my work and make a difference. One of the obstacle was been a community manager, so I decided to stop providing the service, because I felt that it is not a valued job and many people do not understand all the time you must dedicate yourself to doing a quality service, but all the experience acquired has been rewarding, and I have learned a lot from it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love photography and creating videos. I like photography with a natural, fresh, a little vintage, and casual concept. I also like to make videos for social networks, although now I only work with the real estate sector. But I recently received a proposal that has me excited, and I hope to make it happen. I am recognized for the quality and creativity of my work.

What differentiates me from others is that I seek to create a bond with my clients, who connect with what they want to do and enjoy the work we are going to do. I think that to achieve this, charisma as a photographer is essential to ensure that the final result is impressive.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I have always thought that perseverance and discipline bring us closer to the place we want to get to and the dreams we want to achieve, which is why I believe that creating habits in favor of our personal projects or dreams will help us make a difference in what we make.
