Community Highlights: Meet Jen Josey of Jolific Homes, Jolific Properties, Jolific Construction, The Acorn Agency, REIGN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Josey. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Jen Josey

Jen Josey is a real estate investor, coach, blogger, podcast host, and Bestower of Badassery. She grew up in South Florida and graduated from UCF in Orlando. In her past life, Jen taught middle school music for 16 years, followed by 6 years in the health insurance industry. She put everything behind her when she decided to take control of her own financial freedom and became an entrepreneur.

Jen and her husband, Vance, began their real estate investment business, Jolific Homes, in 2017 in Raleigh, NC. They established their rental portfolio, Jolific Properties, in 2018 which includes long and short-term rentals. Jen and Vance also own an investor-friendly brokerage, The Acorn Agency, and recently formed Jolific Construction after Vance earned his General Contractor License.

In 2019, Jen created a virtual mastermind called REIGN, The Real Estate Investor Growth Network, back before it was cool to have a Zoom account. REIGN is an educational platform for real estate investors of all levels to network and be held accountable for their goals. REIGN is also a platform where Jen can inspire and educate others through her experience and humor while coaching with integrity.

Jen started the Real Estate Investor Growth Network Podcast in late 2020 as an additional platform to share massive amounts of content. Jen joined the HomeSchooled by Tarek El Moussa team as a coach in early 2021.

Jen is a Certified Canfield Trainer, Certified Knowledge Business Broker, Certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistics Programming, and Certified Professional Life Coach.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an entrepreneur, there are always bumps along the road. When I first entered the real estate investment industry, many of my friends and family questioned what I was doing every step of the way. “You’re leaving an outstanding Corporate America job to do what?” “You paid HOW much for your education program?” The one that hurt the most was, “House flipping is a dishonest industry!”

With so many doubting me, that’s all I needed to fuel my drive for my future success.

What I have realized over the years is that those family and friends were simply projecting their personal doubts on me for they did not have the courage to take a jump of faith like I did.

There’s a saying that sums this up perfectly: “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can live the rest of your life like most people can’t.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My husband, Vance, and I have five businesses. Jolific Homes is our flipping business. We work with homeowners to help them out of tough situations, including preforeclosure, probate, destructive tenants, etc. We have been able to help families sell their houses quickly without having to pay for costly repairs.

Jolific Properties is our rental business. We have a mix of multi-family and single-family long-term rentals in North Carolina and Virginia. We have also had short-term rentals, even though we are down to just one right now. This business is our focus right now as we are actively trying to grow our rental portfolio to increase our passive income.

Jolific Construction is our newest company that was created out of necessity. Vance earned his General Contractor’s license to use for our own renovations to save on costs. It has since evolved to assist other local investors in keeping their construction costs down while providing on-site consultations.

The Acorn Agency is an investor-friendly agency that provides a place for investors to hang their real estate license. We created this business so investors could get their licenses and not feel pressured to take on retail clients. They have access to the MLS, can save on commissions, and can list their finished renovation projects for a flat fee.

My baby is REIGN, The Real Estate Investor Growth Network. I created this virtual mastermind in 2019 as a place for investors to grow and network. It has since evolved into a podcast where I can share massive amounts of content and interview real estate badasses. I’m now in my 4th season, releasing an episode every Monday morning at 6 am. More recently, I have created several evergreen online courses. This came to fruition after so many newer investors were asking for help, and I didn’t have the time for all of them. Now, I can share a very affordable online course and they get so much more than an hour coaching call.

What’s next?
This year, my husband and I turned 50 so we want to distance ourselves from the active side of the business. Our main focus is to grow our rental portfolio to increase our monthly passive income. Moving to the more passive side of investing will free up our time to help other newer investors through our construction business, real estate agency, and REIGN.
