Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Smith.
Hi Lindsay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My photography journey starts slowly back in 2016 when my son Kohl was born. At the time my husband Tyler was overseas in Afghanistan and pictures of Kohl were so important and a key part of Tyler getting to see Kohl. We didn’t get to video call much while he was in Afghanistan because of the time difference and because of how busy he was over there. Tyler had to wait until our son was 8 months to meet him, so these photos helped him see the day-to-day life of an infant and help him still feel like he was part of the journey too. Also having lost both of my parents by the age of 24 was a key part of making photography so important in my life. I don’t have many pictures of my parents, and I want to help make sure that people always have family pictures and photos of those important times in their lives. Fast forward to 2023. A friend of mine and I were talking about photography one day, and I decided then that I wanted it to be my outlet and help people obtain those ever-so-important photos of their milestones and families!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like I have had a pretty smooth road so far, but that is only because I have had such an amazing mentor that has helped me so much along the way. I don’t think that I would be where I am right now without her help and guidance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since I have started just this year, I don’t have a specific area in photography that I specialize in yet. I hope to be able to specialize in many aspects of photography so that I can provide amazing experiences for many types of people! I love how different session types bring in completely different vibes and needs. So far, I have worked with high school seniors, couples, weddings, families, maternity, boudoir, and birthday milestones. Out of these areas of photography, my favorites have been senior sessions, couples, and boudoir. High school senior sessions are so fun for me because these types of photos highlight the senior’s personality and their accomplishments. I feel like that aspect gives senior sessions a personal and unique experience. As far as boudoir, I love being able to make people feel amazing about their selves and boost their self-confidence! Couple sessions are amazing because you can really feel the love between the two people, and that is something that needs to be captured and cherished! I love to make each session their own and bring the individuals personality’s out in their sessions. I strive to make my clients comfortable as well as ensuring that the process goes as smooth as possible.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Growing up, my family never really had lucky experiences. Coming from older-generation parents, we were always taught to work hard for the things that we want and strive for. I’m thankful my mother and father instilled those hardworking habits into us because I don’t feel like I would be where I am today without those ideas and teachings. I feel like working hard to achieve your dreams is something to be more proud of than being lucky and falling into something great.
