Meet Alyssa Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Addison. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Alyssa Addison

Lyss is a stylist, extension specialist, and educator located at “THE BLAIRE HAIR COLLECTIVE” in Holly Springs, NC. She started doing hair at 19 years old and has found her passion giving confidence back to her clients. Since the start of her career, Alyssa has had several accomplishments in the beauty industry, such as opening her own salon suite and working at New York Fashion Week. Getting accepted to work at Paris Fashion Week, going on private influencer trips to do hair, being an educator for hair talk extensions and for Hanzo shears. Whether Alyssa is traveling the world, offering hair services, or sitting behind the chair, bringing confidence back to her guest, she truly believes she was made for the beauty industry. Doing hair is more than just making someone feel pretty; it is giving them a feeling of self-worth. Making someone feel confident when they feel like they’ve lost it, there’s nothing she would rather be doing.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, countless hours behind the chair. Lots and lots of hustle. In order to become an educator, I decided to start by working for brands for free, volunteering my time, being in the same room with the people who inspired me, even if it meant I was sweeping floor and doing grunt work. Eventually, I kept showing up until they decided they needed me. Making myself readily available and made myself their “yes man.”

I looked at every single opportunity like it was an opportunity to grow, whether that was cleaning or assisting a celebrity stylist at a hair show.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a hairstylist. I do all the hair things, editorial shoots, influencers’ hair, runways shows, and fashion weeks; however; I specialize in extensions and toppers. That is what I believe sets me aside. Anyone can install extensions to give long, sexy, fun hair. I’m able to give clients hair on the crown area of their head. It’s so much better than a wig. They can swim, shower, and live their everyday life with their hair on. Every time they look in the mirror, they see themself with the hair they had once lost. It has been a game-changer for some of my guests.

I have this young client. She’s 12, and she has alopecia. When we started her appointments, she would cry every time we took her piece off for maintenance (which happens every 4 weeks) until we cracked her code. When we took her piece off, we would look in the mirror, and we would say, “It sucks that her hair falls out” She was allowed to feel those feelings. Then, before we would reapply the hairpiece, we would have to find 3 things we loved about ourself. She eventually came in excited to tell me her favorite things rather than being focused on her hair falling out. I get to pour into these guest, and it’s truly been the most amazing thing to witness them fall in love with themself again.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
There’s nothing that makes me as happy as traveling, well maybe except my fiancé. I believe there’s so much world to see. So many cultures to learn about. That’s why I’m so blessed to be able to be a traveling hairstylist. I get to inspire people every day, and it truly fills my cup.
