Hidden Gems: Meet Breah Robinson of Embodied Care Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breah Robinson.

Breah Robinson

Hi Breah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My work emerged from my own experiences. From childhood into adulthood, I directly witness how women’s bodies were objectified and devalued. There was also this message of being healthy as a moral good in relation to a person’s physical appearance. The desire to achieve this was what created an unhealthy relationship to food in which I had no words for because the behavior I was engaging in (dieting and food restriction) was praised and rewarded in society.

Once I was able to name that these patterns and my relationship with food was the problem, I was better able to seek the help I needed to repair my relationship with food. Now, as a therapist, I support other women to heal their bodies and repair their relationship with food.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I like to describe my journey as a piece to a necessary paradigm shift in which I have made so much progress on my own and with supporting my clients. However, in order to truly liberate others, this work will extend far beyond my existence.

The major roadblock is our perception of beauty and the way in which we promote health and well-being in our society. We teach women how to eat disorderly through misinformation and uninformed practices. This was part of my hurdle in the beginning. In a world where society praises disordered eating, it can be hard to break away from this and learn how to support and nourish your body outside of diet and toxic health and wellness culture.
