Inspiring Conversations with Adrian Gunter of Good Choice Handyman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Gunter.

Hi Adrian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory. 
My handyman journey started at Old Dominion Job Corps on 10/7/2007, getting a Certificate in Facilities Maintenance. I chose this trade because I wanted to learn a little bit about everything in maintenance, especially being able to use my experience by helping my family. 

I graduated 1 year later and started my career in the multi-family industry. For the next 14 years, I learned to work on HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and a little bit about everything else in repairs. While working full time at multi-family, I began building my handyman business after work and on weekends, partnering with organizations like Home Depot, Angie’s List, and word of mouth. In October 2022, I was laid off, which led me to jump into my business full-time. I continue to partner with Home Depot and have increased my partnerships to include property management companies, looking to expand my reach further. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My handyman business was simple to start since it’s a service-based business. So, I just needed to use the car and tools I had, I was able to show up, provide the service, and get paid, lol 

The challenges I’ve been faced with is I could only do smaller jobs like assemble furniture, paint a room, or replace ceiling fans. My full-time job accounted for most of my time, preventing me from servicing the bigger jobs when asked. Needless to say, I was happy when I get laid off.

We are your local painting and handyman service business, here to assist with your projects in the home or your business in and around the Triangle area. Our aim is 100% customer service satisfaction, providing quality work for services customized by the client. Reliability is our key, and it’s what I encompass because people don’t tend to know who to call about the smaller jobs. 

I’m best known for my customer service; the way I walk my clients through the process of any service I provide has been the biggest wow factor for them, besides executing the service. 

Good Choice Handyman offers a broad range of services from electrical, plumbing, painting, or even just mounting pictures. 

What does success mean to you?
Matthew 6:33 NKJV is the definition I would use. It says, “But seek first the Kingdom of God and all His righteousness, and these things will be added to you.” Success is nothing without a relationship with God.
