Community Highlights: Meet Lynn Koy of Cocktails for a Cause

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Koy. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Lynn Koy-Stone and Christine Engelbrecht started Cocktails for a Cause because of our passion for hosting wonderfully hosted cocktail hours. We love theme parties, hosting our friends, and meeting new people. Shortly after COVID-19, we realized we missed holiday parties and celebrations, and our close friends and family did. On top of that, we saw how some local businesses were struggling to make a comeback – especially movie theaters. Christine and I rented a theater to host an Oscars-themed party for our friends. From here, we wanted to host another private party to help a local business. We are on the Gala Committee for The Red Cross of NC. Even though organizations were slowly hosting in-person events, 2021’s Gala would be virtual. Christine and I could make an impact by hosting a small private event to help raise. Money for The Red Cross of NC and bring people together at the same time. This is how Cocktails for a Cause was officially started. We hosted an event in Christine’s home and realized that a short 2-hour cocktail party was just enough time for a great fundraiser. This is how Cocktails for a Cause was officially born. Since then, we have enjoyed helping over 12 non-profits and strengthening community connections.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We love what we do, but we needed help with how we would communicate the benefit of partnering with Cocktails for a Cause. After a few proof-of-concept events, we could put pen to paper on the steps that would make these events highly unique, fun, and profitable.

Cocktails for a Cause is a company that helps local non-profits raise money, attract new donors, and raise awareness of their mission through unique 2-hour cocktail parties. We are proud to see our event’s impact on our local community. Cocktails for a Cause walks every non-profit through what it will take to host a successful event. We will start by building an impactful statement to help raise awareness for the event and pick an appropriate theme. We help manage payments, guest lists, RSVP submissions, and venue introductions to highlight a few of our services.
