An Inspired Chat with Jasmine Bivins of Charlotte

Jasmine Bivins shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jasmine, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is more important to me than intelligence or energy because if you have integrity the other two fall into place naturally because your heart is in the right place.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jasmine Bivins and I’m the owner of alt bakery. I wanted to create a bakery that I was proud of and knew wouldn’t hurt my stomach. I’ve had stomach issues all my life and wanted to create products that could be enjoyed by those who may suffer with the same issues and equally enjoyed by those who just enjoy sweets.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would say my mom saw me clearly before I could see myself. I’m here only child and she’s the one who has spent the most time with me and has always accepted me for who I am.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self it would be to never give up your dreams for someone else because you are worth the risk.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. I’m very reserved in the public eye, so it’s the real me but to an extent. I’m quiet most of the time whether there are people around or not, but those moments when I am loud and talkative is when I’m around those I feel most comfortable with.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being in my head so much. I waste way too much time up there.
