Today we’d like to introduce you to Axel Pieraldi.
Hi Axel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When COVID hit, my music career came to a sudden halt and everything I had worked toward disappeared almost overnight. It was a devastating time, and I found myself battling heroin addiction. One day, I made the decision to quit cold turkey and completely start over. That’s when I discovered tattooing. What began as a way to rebuild myself quickly turned into a true passion and a new purpose. Five years later, I own my own shop and have earned 32 convention awards. Tattooing didn’t just change my life. It saved it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a journey filled with lessons. Owning a small business is never easy, and I’ve faced my share of setbacks. Early on, I partnered with someone I trusted, only to later discover he was stealing from me. That experience was painful, but it forced me to grow and to learn the business side of art and to protect what I worked so hard to build. Every challenge along the way has shaped me into a stronger, more grounded artist and business owner.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in new school color work and cartoon-inspired designs that are bold, expressive pieces that tell a story. That’s where my creativity thrives. I try not to compare myself to others; instead, I focus on my own evolution as an artist. What I’m most proud of is the growth I’ve achieved in such a short amount of time. People are often surprised to learn I’ve only been tattooing for five years, and that reaction reminds me that passion, consistency, and vision can take you farther than you ever imagined.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Find a mentor whose art truly inspires you and someone who cares about teaching and pushing you to grow, not just giving you busy work. Do your research. Visit shops, get tattooed, and take time to feel out the energy of the space. Build a strong portfolio that reflects your individuality and dedication. The industry doesn’t need more shortcuts or imitation. It needs genuine artists who respect the craft and the culture. Stay passionate, stay curious, and keep creating from the heart.
