Check Out Jessica Hatu’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hatu.

Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Over the last 7 years, I spent lending my expertise in business, sales, and leadership to the staffing industry. I appreciated the education and real-life experience it allowed me to gain. During my tenure with them, I generated millions of revenue growth year over year. While providing those services, I began finding a passion for entrepreneurship and freedom. I knew my ambition and hustle would allow me to win and I launched my own specialty contracting company, Elite Overhead Garage Doors Inc. I stepped out on faith in September of 2022 to pursue entrepreneurship full-time!

At Elite, we have tailored our services to residential and commercial garage door needs including repairs, installations, and maintenance packages. We have been in business 9 months, and we have proven ourselves to be trustworthy, knowledgeable, and market leaders! Today, only 9 months in, we have several corporate commercial contracts and have completed over 200 repairs in Eastern NC. Our technician is my husband and I know he works hard daily to keep operations and proven excellence top of mind. Today, while running my core business and living my life to the fullest, I am pursuing another passion of coaching women to success through personal development. In the coaching programs, I teach women how to start a business, overcome life’s challenges, Leadership skills, Networking & Marketing to success, and Building confidence.

I love to give back to a community that has helped me along the way, and I partner with the City of Rocky Mount NC yearly to coach their softball program and host a successful softball camp. I am also a Rotarian of Rotary International.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
To be honest, I feel my prior employment trained me properly to handle certain scenarios. Coming into a brand-new market with a brand-new business with little to no reputation is always a challenge. But creating the brand and using resources such as networking and marketing within the local community has truly catapulted us beyond our wildest dreams.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been in sales for 10 years and the last 5 of those 10 I was a sales manager. I trained and coached employees to success. I built a multi-million-dollar business with the staffing industry and maintained it for years under my leadership. After finding the passion for freedom, I focused on building the garage door business. I knew that if I gave the same 110% effort in my own company that I did for someone else’s company that we would WIN.

Now for our garage door company I have all of the sales and marketing that you see on all platforms. I alter the website, post on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor App, Thumbtack, LinkedIn, Google, YouTube). I love how I am able to create a marketing piece and have others appreciate and share to gain business. After proving much success in my own business with marketing/networking, I am now coaching others through seminars with the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce on how to be successful!

I am most proud of myself for taking the leap of faith to leave the corporate world and focus on my own success. I believe making the BOLD moves and teaching others how to do it sets me apart from others. Highly successful people either want to share their secrets or they don’t. I love to see others succeed and to be a part of the journey! Now through my own coaching program, I offer motivation and empower women to step into their confidence and shatter those glass ceilings that are holding them back.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My Husband should receive a lot of credit. I like to say I’m the Brains and Beauty behind our operation and he is the brawn. Although he does not have ownership of the company, we are a great team in what we are able to provide. We use our strengths and weakness to be a strong united front!

I also have a great group of business owners in Rocky Mount that has contributed to our start and our success. Being a member of Rocky Mount Business Builders inspired me and gave me the confidence to JUMP when I was scared to. They contribute by referring our business, using our services, and sharing our marketing with everyone.

I also want to Thank Caneisha Berry of Berry Thoughtful Life Coaching. I was truly scared to make a leap of faith and needing assistance to navigate my own thoughts. Through her coaching program, she made me see that my family was my #1 team and gain the confidence to take the step. We created an exit strategy from the corporate world and a plan to succeed!
