Check Out Joanna Nisbet’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Nisbet

Hi Joanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always had a fascination with creating. When I was young it mainly included drawing, painting, and sculpting. Through the years this expanded to baking and sewing, making Halloween costumes for my kids. When my son and daughter were younger one of my favorite things was our crafts, putting together collages or homemade ornaments. Of course all of this was considered a hobby. I was encouraged to go into the health care industry by my father, who told me there would always be a need in that field. For many years I have been working as a dermatology assistant and even though I enjoy it I’ve had a nagging feeling that there was something more. I had imagined this story during school, and over the years it grew and grew. I often thought about finding an author to write it for me, until I started jotting down notes. When I put “pen to paper” so to speak, the words just flew out. Over half of it was written on my phone. I wrote the manuscript within two months, once I started I couldn’t stop. When it was finished, I found a publisher. While waiting for the manuscript to be published, the wheels kept turning. I have three finished manuscripts and I am in the middle of my fourth. I cannot wait to hold them all in my hands, and curious about what else is next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far writing is actually the easy part, finding a publisher has been the challenge. No one wants to take a chance on new authors. Even now that I am a published author it still has not been easy, I am facing the same responses. This however will not discourage me, I enjoy the stories too much. There will always be obstacles, it’s how you make that lemonade that matters.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m not sure if there’s anything that sets me apart from others, I think everyone has a unique gift waiting to be discovered. Working in the health field provides an underlying care for people that goes beyond their illness. I have always had a vivid imagination, not sure if my brain ever turns off; a quality that isn’t always a benefit. However, it’s convenient for writing. Although I am proud of all my creations, what I’m most proud of is my faith and family. My life changed in all aspects when I found my faith in the Lord, I know that’s how I found the courage to pursue this new chapter in my life. My husband of twenty five years and my grown son and daughter, I’m not sure where the time went.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love North Carolina in general, the history, the charm. The fact that you have the best of everything in one state is fascinating, the beaches on one end and the mountains on the other. Beautiful cities and country farmland. Along with perfectly quartered four seasons that aren’t mimicked anywhere else.
