Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Hamm.
Hi Kyle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Definitely, to start it’s just me (Kyle) and the wife (Samantha) here at Credence, we are very small. We started very simplistic, I built a dining table for my family and decided to post it online to Facebook, just to see if anyone may be interested in one like it which was just over four years ago. At that time, I didn’t have much experience with woodworking and only had a miter saw and a drill to my name.
We definitely jumped in headfirst learning as we went. We both were working at other jobs and always hoped to find something that we could do to create for ourselves as our own business wasn’t sure what it was just taking the steps that God was placing before us. Well soon enough, we sold a table and I took a leap of faith and quit my job to do this full time to dedicate everything I have to this business that we really haven’t even created yet. But we trusted God and the plans he had for us. My wife was able to work Facebook marketplace and keep us consistent on orders as we figured this out. The second year in, we started making noodle boards (Stove Covers). For the holidays, we created a post for them and boosted our Facebook post which ended up reaching 4 million people nationwide. This was very exciting but it almost ended our business because we were not ready for that kind of attention. This humbled us a lot to know who we are and what we can and cannot handle as a business of two. The next few years, we started learning more and being able to obtain new equipment through our own means (no loans or grants taken). We started getting into barn doors, tables, desks, shiplap, chair railing….etc. This would be consistent work throughout the year to keep us both home working for our business. Today we have gotten into French glass barn door styles and herringbone style tables that have been a big hit with our customers and we can only imagine what God has planned for us in the future with this business that he truly blessed us with just because of a little faith.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing for us because we didn’t have a business plan right out of the gate and had no real knowledge of owning or running a business and adjusting to slow seasons. But through trial and error and trusting God is a God that gives and takes away and his will is the best way, we held on to that and took one day at a time. Doing this things started falling into place and we learned that you don’t have to have everything figured out to do what you love you just have to do it and have faith. When we would lose focus of that, we could tell that our business would suffer but when we stay focused on God, it always works out.
Job 1: 21 He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Here at Credence WoodWorks, we build custom made furniture. Usually, we have people come to us asking for their ideas to be created into reality that they can showcase in their homes. My wife and I both do the building, customer communication, delivery and installation of our work. We take our customer’s ideas and our designs to create something very unique, we get the comment from our customers a lot that we brought their vision to reality. We mainly specialize in barn doors and dining tables. We are known for being attentive to details and quality versus quantity. We are most proud of the reaction the customer gives after seeing their product and when we hear the customer say that we exceeded their expectations.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Always go for it and trust in God. Don’t let not having enough stop you from achieving greatness through Jesus who always gives us strength. Three things will last forever Faith, Love and Hope the greatest of all is Love. Seek first the kingdom of Heaven and everything else will fall in place for you. Have faith and keep pushing forward; no matter where you are at in life just keep going.
