Check Out Lashiska Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashiska Davis.

Hi Lashiska, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My passion for dance began at the age of 4.

In June 2007, I wanted to start a program that allowed girls in SE Raleigh to experience dance in all forms. The Girls Club of Wake County gave me this platform and thus the birth of Right Moves Dance. After a few years, I wanted to increase the platform the classes were offered and began teaching for the City of Raleigh.

Every June, we offered a recital. After teaching hundreds of children in various disciplines and age groups, I took the plunge to go on my own and officially become a business, respectively. In celebrating our 10 years of existence, we became a studio and offered classes from ages 2 (1/2)-adults in SE Raleigh. Today, we continue to offer many forms of dance and movement and performance opportunities both locally and across the United States.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a continuous mountain to climb. We have faced adversity many times, even within our own culture, but I look at every experience as a teachable moment. No matter the situation’s outcome, I feel that there are lessons to be learned or notes to take. Some of these situations are more of a testament to how I’m determined to persevere.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right Moves Dance offers all styles of dance, ballet, tap, hip hop, and tumbling. We specialize in combining two styles of dance in one class. I am most proud of the students and their desire to want to learn techniques and truly have a love for dance. What sets us apart from others is that we offer our classes in-house and movement classes within the community to those who may otherwise not have the opportunity to be exposed to art.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
We love doing collaborations. We usually do collaborations with other art organizations and community organizations. We love to give back to the atmosphere that has given so much to us.
