Today we’d like to introduce you to Mat ( JAX ) Myers.

Hi Mat ( JAX ), so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Entrepreneur artist, who started Apex Tattoo Factory 15 years ago, Once we became established well i left those jobs and became a full time small business operator. I am a single father of 2 girls who are grown now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
initially we fought with the town. 30 days after we opened initially (under Arkane Art Tattoo) the city passed laws banning tattoo shops, so we fought back and have been grandfathered in. Im a single dad and tattoo artist of 30 years, and also an Alaskan Native American. Worked 2 jobs initially to keep the shop moving in a forward direction. We had some controversy during the covid pandemic as i stood up for my civil rights and was arrested for it. After fighting and winning that battle our popularity grew. but as demand grew, finding good help became increasingly difficult. And now with the economy being so bad, most all tattoo shops are struggling in one way or another.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Ive been an artist and designer my whole life, i specialize in a number of things from drawing and painting, to digital design and engineering. i also own a 3D printing company that designs military simulation rounds for training and reenactment scenarios. i specialize in mastectomy scar covering and skin graft covering. As well as a number of other specialties.

What does success mean to you?
Being able to do what i love on a daily basis, and sharing that gift with people in a very permanent way physically, but also emotionally.
