Check Out Elijah Christian “Peazy Boi” Akpan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Christian “Peazy Boi” Akpan.

Hi Elijah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Elijah Christian Akpan and I am a singer/songwriter. I’m the oldest of five. Music has always been in my family. My mom, who is a choir director for my church, put me and my brother in her choir at a young age. As a kid, I already knew how to harmonize and sing along to different melodies. I also grew up playing the drums and piano and saxophone.

I feel like music comes easy for me. I started making my own music in 2016. I use to rap a lot. I looked up to Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Eminem, Drake. But something wasn’t clicking for me. I’ma Naija boy; it’s my heritage. I looked up to Burna Boy heavy. Wizkid, Davido, Psqaure, and Duncan Mighty were also an inspiration for me. In 2018, I attempted to hop on an afrobeat.

I found it easier to make songs and it’s songs that’ll make you feel good and catch a vibe. I made my first ever Afrobeat song “Do Me Like That” featuring 100K (available on SoundCloud). I receive so much positive feedback from that song and from then that’s when I knew this is my lane. Afrobeats is definitely my home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never been a smooth road and it will never be. Nothing in life comes easy, especially as an artist. I would say my biggest challenge is just trying to connect with the world. I don’t plan on being local. I want to be global and change people’s lives through my music.

In my area, Pleasantville, NJ, there’s not much support and love being shown from people. Some of them rather support a famous artist who knows nothing about them instead of supporting an up-and-coming artist that they grew up with.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work as a server at Chillis. Obviously, I don’t plan on doing that for much longer. My main goal is to make it with my music.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
God. He deserves all the credit. If not for him, I wouldn’t even be alive today. He blessed me with such a talent and I thank him in advance for what he’ll do in my life. I also have to remember my team LOTL aka Last Of The Loyal and my manager of the brand, Mark Jewelz.

We grew up together and he always believed in me. My boy, Derrick for always being my brother. My mother and father of course. And my siblings for encouraging me to keep going. All my homies, Saúl, LB, Dom, Ebe, Dwon, Eric, and Kodi
