Hi Shae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello and thank you for having me! As an introduction to me and my company, Bound With Love is an online, North Carolina based candle company hand poured with love and soul. Starting out like many others, the love for candle-making quickly shifted from hobby enthusiasts to realizing the love for it all. The creative expression in fashioning scent combinations and alluring candle names has turned into a true passion and sharing these creations with others is quite a pleasure. It’s true that there is an art as well as a science to candle making. The possibilities are endless to say the least. From the start of the pandemic, out of the downtime of being alone with my thoughts, Bound With Love was birthed. As a lover of all things creative, from writing music and poetry to photography, abstract painting and pottery, I felt a need to pour all of me into something. Bound With Love quickly became my creative melting pot and outlet of expression. Living in such a dark world, though serving as an advocate for domestic violence survivors and prison reform, I wanted to create a different trajectory filled with love and light. I honed in on the silence, listened to the inner creator in me and began to pour a candle of love. I felt it was important to embrace my talents yet face my fears and insecurities while allowing me the space to evolve into the best version of myself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no and to be honest, I wouldn’t have chosen any other path. The creator in me loves the behind the scenes concocting of candle making, yet surprising to some, I’m actually pretty shy so public speaking and social media haven’t been my first love. As a creative person, I’ve always had the tendency to bore easily and switch gears once I got good at something but when I started Bound With Love it was different. All the things that were shortcomings for me, I’ve chosen to face head on. As one who has been guilty of procrastinating and overanalyzing, I used this new venture as a way to grow myself and a business at the same time. I really get in a zone and pour all of me into my candles. Bound With Love has served as a way to bond with others that I may have not met otherwise. My candle line created an outlet to break a cycle of depression as well as a shift from societal pressures of not yet being a wife or mother.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A lover of all things creative, I wanted to find a way to merge my love of poetry with my new found love of candle making. Each candle tells its own story and the titles of each leave one wanting to know more. I wanted each candle to create or recreate an experience through scent and memory to each person that owns one. Bound With Love candles serve as a reminder to myself and others that love is a beautiful thing and is to be embraced and shared. I specialize in handpoured soy candles and cultivating good vibes for self-care and/or romantic occasions. I am most proud of myself for the personal growth that has come since starting my company. To some they may feel it’s simple, I make candles, but the reality is I’ve used candle-making as a way to pour into myself and others.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important qualities to me are consistency and humility. As an entrepreneur that wears all the hats of the business, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and procrastinate. I have been my own cheerleader but I have also been my own worst enemy and critic along this journey. I want to make sure that I am always staying true to myself and never compromising who I am for the sake of a sale nor cutting corners to the quality of my products to change anything that I have worked so hard to build.
