Check Out Taylor Diebold’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Diebold.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pawsitivity all started with my passion for helping and loving animals and a need to let my creative side out. In college, I worked for a small boutique that did custom orders for things such as t-shirts, bags, cups, and more. I always wanted the machine they had to cut the vinyl for each order but never knew what I would really use it for. Fast forward to after graduation I ended up getting what I imagined being my dream job in my favorite city, New York City for a large dog company.

I quickly learned that they really weren’t a company that aligned with my views about animals, so I decided to part ways. Ironically enough the Christmas before I left that job, I got the vinyl machine along with a cute accessory that said “Stay Pawsitive” on it and it all just clicked at that moment. Since then, I haven’t looked back and I love what I do and love adding to my store and getting to see so many cute faces in reviews and for custom orders. I started this shop with just bandanas and now I have custom portrait t-shirts and sweatshirts, bags, and more to come this year too.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride. When I started I had no e-commerce background, I didn’t know anything about owning a business and I had to accept the fact that not every person shopping was going to be nice. I learned the hard way about the timing of launching items and not being on top of shopping trends. I also learned you need to weigh your pop-up tent for events down with water weights when it’s even a slight bit windy or you’ll scrape up the roof of your Jeep. I learned so much and I am still learning every day!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create and design dog bandanas, decals, t-shirts, and social media content. I design custom portrait shirts of animals for shirts and bags. I am known through my business, Pawsitivity, for the bandanas and shirts but I’m also known outside of that from friends and family as the one who can create an array of things. I have designed things from custom wedding signs, party decor, koozies, clothing items, cards and so much more. I am most proud of taking my creativity and doing something I love with it.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have a love/hate relationship with taking risks. I think sometimes it could be the best thing to do but then other times could be the worst. Personally, since I started this shop with my own funding and continue to support myself with it and keep it running taking risks can be financially damaging and in no way do I think that’s needed when there isn’t much to get you back on track.

Outside of my small business aspect, in my personal life, I love taking risks and seeing where or what it brings me. I think there have always been lessons with taking risks that were very much needed and although I don’t prefer taking them with my business I do think you should take risks in life.
