Check Out Tracey Turner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Turner.

Hi tracey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to NC in 1992 and began working part time a the Health dept as a maternity Care coordinator and later in a middle school as a therapist to educate youth in mental health. I opened up my private practice during this time focused on Families with children foster and adopted care.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
its been a pretty smooth road, unfortunately on one level since I have been busy ever since, which indicated the desperate need for therapists and mental health providers to be educated and aware of the impact ACE (Adverse Childhood Events) have long term on children and their families.,

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in working with children with developmental complex trauma and attachment disruptions and ACE. Children unfortunately do not respond well to traditional therapy methods. There are primarily two reasons for this. First, the success of psycho dynamic and play therapies are dependent upon a trusting relationship between therapist and child. A child with complex developmental trauma is not neurologically able to form trust of Self or of primary care givers and, therefore, traditional therapy will fail. In addition, these children function from a ‘survival model’ and are experts in delivering what adults expect of them.
Most traditional therapists are not able to provide the model of intervention needed to handle the destructive behaviors. These children may display terror and rage when held accountable to their ‘survival skills’ they use on well-intended, but unsuspecting caregivers. This will often exacerbate the problem. Second, traditional therapy is not conducive to the intensity, frequency, and immediacy required to reorganize the neurological developmental trauma, handle the defensive mechanisms and physiological triggered emotional reactions created from repeated early experiences of abuse, neglect, and chaos.
I work with the entire family system and not ONLY the child so this therapy involves the entire family – hence i will also address family members individual issues, marital and sibling issues that aries.

What are your plans for the future?
Yes – I have big plans to sift into consulting, supervising and writing about my 40 yrs of work with attachment – relationship wounds.
I am one of the few therapist that incorporate, Dance Movement Therapy, Yoga, EMDR, narrative therapy all interwoven with a deep spiritual and magical perceptive that encompasses all Beings.
