Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles J. Cooper Jr.
Hi Charles, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my business CJ Floors Janitorial Services back in Philadelphia, PA in 2003. While still working a full-time job at night, I was still able to work my business part-time. I was able to do both until my health started to get worse. In 2002 I was diagnosis with End-stage renal disease called (FSGS) Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. I struggle with this for a few years until 2006 and then it was time for me to start dialysis. So, I put my business on hold to take care of myself. Until I reunited with my high school sweetheart and we had a child my baby boy in September of 2007 and in May of 2008 we got married. We have been together ever since. I was on dialysis Home-chemo for a very long time, but I always had my mind on my business hoping a day I would be able to work it again. As time moved on, I would face another hurdle in my life while battling kidney disease and doing dialysis I was diagnosed with kidney cancer, so I had surgery to remove my left kidney where the cancer was at and that was in 2013. I really thought my life was over, but with the help of my wife and family, and good friends. I was able to keep on fighting. Until August of 2014, I was called by my kidney transplant team that they had a kidney for me. I was very very happy beyond words, so after my transplant, it still took a while for me to heal and get back to things. A couple of years went by and I started back my business but Instead of doing Janitorial cleaning I deiced to go full-blown carpets cleaning and made my wife my business partner. But there was something still missing from my life. I have always loved going to North and South Carolina for our family trips. Until one day my wife and I deiced to move to Fayetteville North Carolina in 2018. I work for other companies in NC but still just wasn’t working for me I was still missing something. Then in 2020 is when everything came to a complete stop with CODIV 19. So, I couldn’t work in the medical field because I was still compassed with my health. So, I was out of work for over a year until we found a house in my father’s hometown of Lumberton, NC where 70% of my family is at. I felt that I was finally home and that’s when my and I changed our company’s name to CJ’S Carpet Cleaning, LLC and have been cleaning people’s carpets. We are a small family business with a powerful impact on people young and old. I would not have made it if it wasn’t for my wife and children
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
