Community Highlights: Meet Hydia Baldwin of Vegan Sweet’s & Treat’s

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hydia Baldwin.

Hi Hydia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I honestly started my company based on an idea I had. I’ve always loved cooking and baking so it came naturally when I decided I wanted to have my own bakery, but what didn’t come naturally was me turning it into a vegan bakery. About a year and a half ago I started to buy stuff for my company but yet again I didn’t realize that’s what I was doing. I even started to discuss with my partner what would be a good name for my company and a list of items I would sell but I didn’t pursue my dreams till sometime in January 2021. I literally had just finished with a seasonal job and woke up that next day and told myself do what makes you happy and working for other people does not make me happy. Spreading love and joy does.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road to this day; I’m constantly faced with new obstacles. One of my biggest struggles is managing a small business and attending a university. Another struggle I’m faced with is not having a big support system, and just doing everything myself is sometimes challenging.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vegan Sweet’s & Treat’s, LLC.?
As a small-town girl raised in a single-parent household, I did not grow up having the luxury to eat as healthy as I do today. So I created my company to introduce people to healthy eating and what better way to do that than sweets. Many people see my company and are terrified to try anything vegan but once they try my specialty cookie which is the strawberry cookie they fall in love and become amused at how I can make something vegan taste so good. Besides, I honestly love what I do and I’m not in it for the money because sometimes I don’t even make that much. I just would like people to know it is okay to eat healthily, I want people to live longer, I want people to be happy and forget their problems whenever they taste a bite of my treats. I would say that is what sets me apart from others, my passion, and genuine spirit.

I have yet accomplished so little and I say that because I dream big. I believe with the right amount of effort anything can be accomplished. For myself, creating my own website, flyers, and promotion videos is an accomplishment because I know nothing about graphic designs but like I said you can do anything you put your mind to.

I would like readers to know that Vegan Sweet’s & Treat’s, LLC., is an online vegan bakery where customers can place an order and have their products shipped or delivered locally. I offer member discounts when customers sign up to become a member free of charge and are notified when Vegan Sweet’s & Treat’s, LLC does local pop-up shops. I also offer to customize orders and provide additional information on my social platforms.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The essential quality that has contributed to my success foremost is my spirituality. I attempt to pray faithfully and just thank The Most High for all my blessings because without prayer nothing can get too far. You can put in as much work and effort but if you don’t set time aside to pray you will not be as successful as you can be. In addition, I would say my genuine spirit contributes to my success; I love what I do and just love to spread joy. Plus, I remind myself no one can do what I do, they might try to imitate but they cannot be me.
