Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Cain.
Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a foodie and designer – charcuterie seems like the natural answer, doesn’t it? For me, it wasn’t so easy though. For years I’ve grappled with the question of what do I even do with my life? I am multi-passionate and a lover of many things. When the art of charcuterie found its way into my life, it captured my attention and wouldn’t let go.
In November 2020, I met with a local business owner to ask if I could start teaching charcuterie design classes in her shop. She took a chance on me and said yes, and that was when Fig + Forage was born. From in-person and virtual classes and to-go boxes and trays and events, I love creating community around beautiful food experiences.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While owning a business isn’t new to me, owning and operating a food business was brand new. Since food is perishable there are shelf-life challenges. Understanding and navigating competition and cut-throat vibes (which is honestly so not me).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Fig + Forage?
Fig + Forage helps you create community around beautiful food experiences. We do this through our charcuterie classes – virtual and in-person, as well as our to-go boxes and trays available for preorder once a month.
I believe Fig + Forage is different from other businesses in the same industry because we curate unique products to make each experience invigorating and custom. We also give back to Designed for Joy https://www.designedforjoy.com a local business in Raleigh creating a transitional work experience for women emerging from trafficking, homelessness, time in prison, overcoming addiction or other vulnerable situations. We provide living wage work hours while building confidence and refreshing resumes. We are launching equipped women into the marketplace.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the community partnerships I have formed to infuse local love into everything we do.
I want your readers to know we aim for a truly unique, inviting, and community-oriented experience.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is being who I really am all the time, showing up authentically – sharing, giving, living joyfully and giving back.
